Is selling unused supplies allowed?

Post by oneheart58 » Thu Jul 07, 2022 9:55 am

I have a surplus of supplies that I was hoping to offer at a discounted price. I don't want to break any rules. Please advise.

As long as you are a cpap user yourself and these are your personally purchased items then it is okay to offer them here.

And expect others to comment if they see a value issue or concern with the sale.

We love to see unused devices, masks and supplies get redistributed to members, especially at a bargain, but most of us are here for novices and feel a stronger obligation to novices and not to the seller.

What happens occasionally, a seller might be selling a device with a lot of hours, or to high a price or there might be some other redflag. When this happens, we will point it out for the protection of the potential buyer. At this point the seller sometimes gets all gets pissy becuse we're undermining their sale.

I'm not sure whose "rules" you are are referring to.

That said, if you obtained these supplies by way of an insurance subsidy, you may have some personal ethics issues.

(for example, if your DME sent supplies and billed Medicare for most of the cost, and you only paid a small portion, you should probably feel at ease selling these supplies at your cost).

The rules I think the OP was inquiring about was forum rules.

Thank you all for your replies. I purchased these supplies myself and paid full price. I just didn't want them to go to waste and if someone could use them I'd be happy to offer them at what I hope everyone will feel is a fair price. I have not looked into the cost of shipping so prices listed are w/o shipping costs. If you are interested please let me know.

This is one:

Prime Clean CPAP cleaning device is Ozone based.

Not only are they unnecessary:
  • Using one on your CAP can void its warranty
  • Cause parts within your CPAP to break down faster (foam, rubber plastics)
  • Specifically recommended against by ResMed and Respironics
  • Not safe to use around people and pets

Insurance "subsidy", in most cases, is only a fraction of the premiums already
paid to the insurance company.
After 7 years on Medicare, the amount paid on my behalf only ONCE
exceeded the premium I paid that month--after cancer, surgery, etc.
It just is not fair.

Self appointed forum morality police.....ignore.

As for price...up to the seller and the buyer (if someone wants to be a buyer) to establish price. Not the self appointed forum morality police dictates.

We all pay for our insurance that covers their part of any of our replacement supply costs....in addition to any copays that are involved. People seem to tend to forget that we pay for our insurance first...then we get to pay a co pay when insurance pays for a part of the cost of our stuff.

So there is more involved to our actual equipment cost than just our co pay. There's what we pay up front each month for that insurance in the first place that the forum morality police seems to have forgotten.

And then there is the stuff that insurance doesn't cover as well as anything a person elects to buy out of pocket outside the insurance replacement allowance schedule that they end up not wanting or needing and want to sell.
Not everything offered for sale may have been paid for by insurance anyway.

Seller and buyer get to dictate price.....no one else.
