GoodKnight 418

I am looking to purchase a cpap machine to replace the one I presently have.
The machine I am searching for is the Goodnight 418 by Puritan Bennett. It is an older machine and has a handle on the top. I believe they stopped making them 4-5 years ago. I have tried other newer machine but all the ones I have tried have a two toned sound. One tone when you inhale and one tone when you exhale. The Goodnight 418 has only one tone so is easy to sleep with. I would like to purchase one of these or I could have my health care provider purchase it if necessary.
If any of you know of one for sale or a source for one I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Have you tried the e-bay, yahoo and craigslist auctions? I'm pretty sure you can post a wants list on all three.

Early last year there were a few PB428s on Yahoo. I have seen none lately.

But if someone asked me what machines didn't vary the sound I would put these forward.

The F&P HC221LE - you can blow hard into the tube & this machine does not change its sound. The sound from it is very easy to adjust to - very much like 'white noise'

The F&P HC230 (same as HC221LE)

The F&P HC604 (same as HC221LE)

Also,
Respironics Bipaps when run in CPAP mode also hold the sound to a single tone. These machines use an air valve to adjust pressure & the blower motor pretty well maintains constant speed. The sound is easy to get used to and is in the same sort of pattern as the F&P machines.

Good luck

I guess he really, really, really likes that particular machine. Too bad I gave away the only one I had.
Hey, LSAT....maybe your friend who got that machine might want to make some money....
Supply and demand rule the price and the supply of those old machines is pretty slim pickings.

Whatever floats your boat folks. Den has a stock pile of Legacy Respironics machines because that's what he like and has no desire to try anything else...that's his right to feel that way.
Me...I am always willing to try the latest and greatest just to help with the boredom if nothing else as long as I can afford to experiment.
ResMed and Respironics need to get off their butts and release something new so we can all try it and help me with my boredom fix.

was thinking about this the other day. i know i'm going to seek out my dear old resmed machine when the time comes. how will i be able to trust whatever new fangled machine comes out when my current one dies?

perhaps i should take a page from wulfman's book and start stocking up now.

Hey Pugsy..I didn't realize that was a 418...He loves that machine. He has an Airsense in Florida and keeps the GoodKnight here in Milwaukee

Yep even after 13 years I still hope someday someone will have this machine in good shape. The one I am using now I got in 1998 --- 22 years old and still going. But I expect it to stop sometime and hope to get another like it.

Reason why ---- it is very quiet and has a monotone sound output. I tried a newer machine a few years ago and it sounded like a British ambulance siren - wee hooo ---wee hooo. That tow toned sound drove the wife and I nuts.

Another oldie but goodie is the Mirage nasal mask. They stopped making these also but I was able to glom on to about ten of them about ten years ago and I still have eight left. I keep them going with shoe goo and model airplane cement.

Yeah I know I might possibly be labeled as eccentric or something..... but if you find something that really works well stick with it..
