c-flex setting ?

Post by shippy » Sun Jan 21, 2007 9:02 am

The c-flex on my machine was set up at 3 when i got it and i have played with this setting and tried it on 1 and 2 and it seems like there is no change. I can not tell a difference in breathing comfort when i change the setting (wether its worse or better). My machine is set at 16cm pressure the c-flex set on 3 works just fine, but other people in the equipment profiles have different settings whats the difference? Can anyone explain this feature in detail? Does the fact that i am up there in pressure and other folks are lower in pressure, have something to do with the different settings?

Dale

Wellllll .... I'm a newbie to this and I have a Resmed w/EPR rather than a Respironics w/C-Flex - BUT - my understanding (and the more knowledgeable will answer soon, I am sure) is that a C-Flex set at 3 grants 3 cms of pressure relief so that at C-Flex of 3 and pressure set at 16 your exhalation pressure would be 13. Whereas at a C-Flex of 2 your exhalation pressure would be 14. I hope I'm not all wet w/this and am not giving you a bum answer.

That is incorrect, C-Flex gives you some exhale relief, at the start of exhale, based of the force you exhale. 3 being the most relief, 1 being the least relief, it's not bases on set pressures.

EPR, works by reducing exhale pressure, by the number of cm you set (1 to 3), for the whole exhale time. Jim

Thanks, GoofProof for saving my bacon. I knew I should have kept my fingers still and not answered. Live and learn. My apologies for the bum steer, Shippy. The road to h*ll is paved w/good intentions. I'll be holding the door open for everyone else.

Dale,

The C-Flex differs from the EPR in that the EPR setting is (supposedly) a 1, 2 or 3 cm drop in pressure. However, (as I understand) the C-Flex is "relative to your exhale pressure". In looking at my MyEncore charts, it appears that my C-Flex setting of 2 is a 1 cm drop in pressure. Some months back, upon getting one of my machines back from Respironics, I inadvertently mis-set my C-Flex setting to 1 instead of 2.......I didn't notice the difference and it was a couple of days before I discovered that I had set it that way (while I was in the setup changing something else).

Respironics has documents describing C-Flex on their website.

http://global.respironics.com/

There's a little (white) search box on the main screen. Put "C-Flex" in there and see how many links come up.

Best wishes,

Den

No problems, you are at least on the road, as we all are, it's hard to keep everything straight for sure. A lot of things are mis-understood, as we get them sorted out, we all gain. Jim

pressure is pretty high, should have a bi-pap. Cflex is a comfort setting, set it to where it is the most comfortable. There is a difference between them, I keep mine on 2.

Guest is correct, (Did i say that? ), You pressure is High for CPAP, You might want to get the software and reader, maybe you could get by on a lower pressure. I started at 14 cm and went to 15.5 cm (My best CPAP preasure). Thanks to APAP, I can use a much lower pressure, and have a lot less leaks. Jim
