Extension cord to use with a ResMed airsense 11
Extension cord to use with a ResMed airsense 11
Hi,
I'm going to be traveling and I want to buy an extension cord to use in hotel rooms when I'm traveling with my AirSense 11. What are some of the desired specs to look for when buying an extension cord?
Thanks.

Power for a CPAP machine is low, no need for any special power cord. Just any cord you like.

Any extension cord will be just fine for a cpap.

most hotel rooms will have a plug close to your bed. its code. the cord on the air sense 11 should be long enough to reach to it. if you need more length. 14 gauge cord will be more than enough to cary the load. don't buy a long one. keep it short. 6 ft. the air sense 11 puts out 65 watts at full power.
Re: Extension cord to use with a ResMed airsense 11
From my limited experience, the plug closest to the bed was usually used for lighting. I always carried an extension cord.

if you have a light close to the bed. its a 15 amp circuit. more than enough power, to use the cpap.

It's a good idea to carry an extension cord. Get a cheap, lightweight cord - less space in luggage.
This is assuming you are not talking about an outlet adapter for some foreign countries.
Re: Extension cord to use with a ResMed airsense 11
A lot of extension cords on the market now have those angled plugs meant to be flatter behind furniture. But I find them very difficult to use in some hotel rooms, because of where the plugs are located and the fact that the angled housing gets in the way of other things that have to be plugged in. So personally I prefer the bulky "straight in" type of plug on the extension cord.

Bedside outlets in motels I have seen have 2 receptacles, one for the clock,
and the other for the lamp. The lamp often has an outlet for you (phone, etc.
--unless it powers off when you switch off the lamp--check this.)
I always move the motel's alarm clock/radio to the desk, freeing up the outlet
for my fused power strip, which powers my cpap.
I always use my phone's alarms.

I have a surge protector block on the extension cord for my CPAP at home. I think I might do similar if I was traveling as well.
This one from Amazon could plug into the end of a light duty (16 gauge) 3 wire extension cord or plug directly into the wall outlet with an extension cord plugged in.
As a plus it has USB charging ports for a phone or other devices.

Basic, nothing fancy 6 ft extension cord......

Hotel room outlets are often full, Air B&Bs and cruise ships can need a short ext. cord. tho a cruise ship will gladly provide one, in fact prefer that to any cord a passenger brought on board.
I do like the Belkin that Grumpy48 linked to. I put my kit together before the USB's became so plentiful and while I do have 1 four-outlet USB charger I prefer the one that came with my phone as it charges much faster.
I always carry a power strip, 6ft. ext cord, and several muli-outlet adapters some 3, some 6 outlets in diff configurations, like in the link. Those can also come in handy at the airport when all the outlet are full.

A tester can also come in handy in many of the places.
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=outlet%2Btes ... _sb_noss_1
These all stay in my cpap carryon bag.

If you live in the US and are traveling within the US, to Canada, Mexico, or most of the other countries in the Americas, you're fine with any safe (should have a UL endorsement) extension cord.
If you live elsewhere, any safe extension cord is likely good within your own country.
If you're traveling internationally and/or are going on a cruise ship, there are special considerations.

I don't see a voltage rating less than 300, and most are 600. In addition they need to survive the dielectric voltage-withstand test of 1250 V. I do not see a problem taking your UL listed USA extension cord to Europe, as long as the end device is rated for the voltage and you have the proper adapter.
Power strips with built in surge protection should be avoided, since the MOVs are specific for the supplied voltage. Use a simple extension cord.
