Airsense10 battery turns off after 3 minutes

Post by hsnopi » Tue Apr 19, 2022 2:07 pm

Hello all,
I have the Airsense 10 auto-start (327028) and the converter (370003). I know the equipment works. I have a eco-worthy 12v 8ah (96wh) deep cycle LiFePO4 battery. charged it reads 13.3v. It works for the kids scooters and go carts. I plug it in to the cpap and it runs for about 3 minutes and turns off. heater is off, in airplane mode. setting is 9. The chart says it pulls about .85amps.

Why is it turning off?
Thanks!
Hsnopi

By heater are you referring to the heated hose, or the humidifier?

Ensure the humidifier is also off.

If you hook the converter to your car's battery, how long does the machine run for?

Hello,
The humidifier is off. Just a slimline hose. No conditioned hose. I hooked it up to the car and it ran for 15 minutes before I turned it off. Same for house power.

The problem then, is your battery, Q.E.D.

Maybe get another one and put 'em in series.

Well, yes, the Resmed converts are rated for 12-24 vdc.

I'm a little confused though about one thing. The chart shows the amp draw at .85 (roughly) but the power brick says 3.75a. is 3.75 a max rating? Trying to calculate actual draw rate and battery run time.

It's .85 without using the humidifier, heated hose and pressure set at 9. The power brick has to be capable of providing enough amperage using those features and higher pressure.

If you have a voltmeter - measure the voltage while the cpap is powered on.

I suspect the voltage is dropping - that is what they will do when the voltage is low, they shut OFF>

Thanks for all the help. I watched the voltmeter. While it is sitting the battery is 13.4v but when the cpap is on it drops to 8.5. Even though it is an 8Ah battery it still drops that low. I'll play with it more later.

Time for a new battery.
Is this one old? Or just been discharged too low too many times?
8ah is really not that big. Depends on how long you want it to last a 35ah would be better.
Sometimes two are better so you can charge one while still using the other.

Once the power goes out there is no time for planning this.

Now we know what happens when the voltage goes too low - one guy thought the cpap would catch on fire? lol

No need to play any more. That is the textbook example of what a battery does under load when it's bad.
