Face mask recommendations please
I finally got my triation results from my doctor. I've been pretty disappointed in my progress so far but after todays visit I feel a bit of optimism. My doctor was pretty upset that the DME guy gave a CPAP machine without any settings. He was even more upset that I was simply given a mask without any choices. I have not been happy with my nasal pillow mask as it shifts around a lot when I sleep. So as of tonight I have a pressure setting that should help me sleep better. Also, the doctor wrote a prescription for a face mask to replace the nasal pillows that I've been having problems with. Now if I can find a face mask that doesn't keep waking me up when I toss and turn like the nasal pillow mask does I think I might actually start seeing some positive results. So, I'd like to hear what nose/mouth masks you recommend. Obviously comfort, a good seal, and something that stays in place are my top concerns. Thanks for you help!
Steve,
I toss & turn & always sleep on my side. Needless to say finding a mask that will work for me has been a challenge.
When I went in for my second study Monday night, I told the tech about my sleeping habits. He brought out a F&P HC407 nasal mask, and, viola!
It worked so well I ordered one shipped next-day.
I just got it today, and I plan on giving it a go tonight. I'll let you know tomorrow if it works as good as I'm hoping.

Wake me up when this is over...

And another vote for the Aura!Sleepy Dog Lover wrote:For Nasal Pillows, you should add the Aura Headrest Twilight, at least I think thats the current name for it. I am a side sleeper and I love my Aura
For me, Breeze slipped every which way so wound up with sores in my nostrils. Swift, like the Breeze, had to be re-adjusted 4 or so times per night. But in the entire year I've had the Aura, it has woken me up 2 or 3 times altogether. I'm a side -- almost stomach -- sleeper and a tosser-turner.
BTW, if you get an Aura, check out the Aura rubber band trick in this forum's archives. You can also find there a velcro trick for the back band (that can be used on any headgear back band) and Rested Gal's classic Aura adaptation.
(Seem to recall that the maker of the Aura has some gizmo they will provide for people's whose heads aren't quite big enough for the Aura headgear to make it fit. Does anybody know more about that?)

And Scuba, in case you haven't read this here yet, for headgear that has the tube coming up off the top of one's head, most folks find it helpful to attach the hose to the wall or headboard above their heads about 1.5 to 3.0 feet.
Cup hook with a woman's hair scrunchie hooked on it to thread the hose through will do.
You and your headgear should be sort of dangling like a fish on a line with enough play to toss around but not so much that the hose drags. It's a way to reduce torque on the interface and thus your nose.

I tried the Swift and the ComfortLite 2...i liked the CL2, but I was having to tape my mouth and so decided on a full face mask. I got a Hybrid, but sometimes have trouble with the pillows, so both my husband and I now use a Fisher & Paykel 431. I find it very easy to put on and take off and it has given me very good numbers. Of course I wake up in the morning with vertical marks on my face, but someone here suggested witch hazel which does help.
Hi Steve,
What it boils down to is your own comfort. I have used the ComfortGel, the Swift and just got the F & P 431 FF mask yesterday. I spent 1/2 the night adjusting and readjusting...leak, leak, leak..but I know I will have to play more with the headgear and find the best sleeping position for it to get a decent trial from me. It's very comfortable so I'm hoping I can make it work. I did like the Swift alot but couldn't clear up the nasal issues after 5 weeks. Unfortunately for some, it is just trial and error till they find the mask that works the best for them, others are able to find one the 1st try. I wish you good luck!
