Best FFM for someone with a beard question.
Best FFM for someone with a beard question.
I've got a friend of mine who's boyfriend (probably) needs a FFM, but, has a beard, and is looking for recommendations for any FFMs that aren't terribly leaky with a beard.

ResMed AirFit F20. Silicon cushion works great. Tried foam cushion also without success.

Fitlife total face mask, oversized enough so it can ride just under the chin.
It made a lovely wave in the bullfrog's beard.

I have a full beard. My backup mask is the F20. I have had little leakage with it (better with liner). I get a little leakage through the beard, but it does not bother my sleep and I keep good therapy pressure.
Normally use P10 and Bleep. F20 if nose is too plugged up.

I have been using the Resmed Ultra Mirge Full-face "UMFF"mask since I started therapy in 2005....(not the SAME ONE). In recent months, out of curiosity, I decided to let my beard grow and it it is now "full". It still seems to be working just fine. A little leaky perhaps, but nothing horrible. Have had a few nights with some Large Leaks but it hasn't really affected my therapy......still low AHIs and wake up feeling well rested.

Thanks for starting this thread -- bearded hubs needs a good FFM so I'll be watching this one.

I find that keeping the hair under the mask edges that make contact with the face short (mustache and under bottom lip) was key to keeping a good seal. As long as I kept those hairs well-trimmed the ResMed F20/F30/F30i sealed fine. I only had leak issues if I let them get long.
