Johnb2 still tired even after CPAP

Post by Rapunzel111 » Mon May 29, 2006 11:12 am

Hi JohnB2-
I am a CPAP user also and I just wanted to point out to you something I discovered that was making me sleepy that I found out at the same time that my sleep apnea was discovered...
If you are heavy as I am,you may want to talk to your Doctor about having a glucose tolerance test done.I discovered that I am borderline diabetic, and have been forced by my doctor to modify my diet and lose weight.
I noticed that like you,I got verrrry sleepy after eating especially after consuming carbs llike bread, pasta, etc,as my sugar levals went through the roof.
It would be wise to get checked out for diabetes,as this is a very serious ailment that can be stopped before you turn full blown diabetic through watching your diet and excercising. If you find out in time you can make it go back to normal. You don't feel it when you are turning diabetic at all,but being that sleepy after eating is a big sign of it.
My diabetic friend Patrick at work told me to drink lots and lots of water after eating any ''offending'' foods occasionally that raise your sugar like pizza, bread pasta, etc,to avoid the sleepiness factor, and I have to say,it absolutely WORKS!He said the water dilutes the high sugar in your system and helps to flush it out.
Good luck to you,and God Bless-

Oh,I almost forgot-
You may also want to invest in a good chin strap to keep your mouth closed while using your CPAP.If you are still tired it could be that your mouth is hanging open during sleep without your knowlege, and cancelling the good effects of the CPAP.I had this happen too.A chin strap will make the CPAP treatment work better.

Rapunzel111,

Thanks for the suggestions. The chin strap might be an option to consider. However, my wife says I no longer snore or breathe with my mouth open, and believe you me, if it were so- she would say so ! Re: the diabetes, at my recent physical the doc found bellow borderline diabetes on the first test cycle. So he called me back for another go around, where no sugar was detected. My Bp/cholesterol are booth fine for a healthy man half my age. That's when he asked about any other problems so I told him my wife was complaining for years about my snoring and stopping breathing and I think I have Sleep Apnea. That's how this whole cycle started.

BTW, I just had a 2 hour nap from 1-3 because I couldn't keep my eyes open at lunch.

Well here it is mid-January 2007, I now use the Ultra-Mirage Full Face mask - amazing difference. I need 10 hours sleep. Today, I woke up at 7 AM after going to sleep at 2 AM. This evening I had to take a 2 hour nap and I am bleary eyed sleepy. When do I feel at my maximum?

I believe all those people are people that used the same ip address as you do.

When you post it records the ip address (ip - internet protocol) so if you use a name it records that name that was posted if you are not logged in and posting as a guest it only knows the ip number and not your name.

Most people use dynamic ip address not static ips. That means it changes when you reboot your computer or log back into your internet service provider.

I believe it is either that or else along with sleep apnea you have a severe schizophrenia problem. Hopefully one of those personalities doesnt have OSA and you can choose that one when you go to sleep! LOL

" severe schizophrenia "

That's it Jack. Oh no it's not. Who said that? I did. Where are you? Here. Wait I am over here. This is cuckoo! You're telling me. How do I get these people off my back? Help, Help. I've fallen asleep and I can't get up! I recognize one person on the list and it's me in the middle. Help. help don't leave me here. If anyone knows how to rid my signature of these hangers-on please help. Psychiatry is not the answer!

I hope I fixed the signature problem. Anyhow, last night I slept from midnight until noon today. The weird thing is I could probably go right to sleep now. Is this nuts or what? Can anyone relate?

Does that get rid of these other people? I adjusted my profile. If this does't work forget about it.

When I put my user anme in the above username box and try to submit, it tells me that name is already chosen! By me - of course!

I give up.

John,
I believe you need to make sure you are logged in. You have been posting as a guest and I believe that is the problem. So if you closed your browser and started over that should work. Worst comes to worst you would have to delete your cookies and reboot the machine.

Make sure at the top there is a logout link (next to the profile link) and your screen name and then you are logged in properly.

Hi Jack,

I think I got rid of those others, I hope. Cleared cookies. Maybe I won't need to sleep so much. 12 hours last night.
