Wanted to add that I just got mine in the mail and thank the poster who left all the good advice. My husband will be happy if this is indeed quieter. I have lived without this thing for a long time and have mixed feelings about inviting it back into my bed. Treating thyroid made a big difference in my ability to stay awake but I still have apnea. I hope everyone that is waiting gets theirs soon!

The advice about turning the D2 around so the tube connects out the back and the water tank is facing front has turned out to be great advice. And it's much easier to pull out the tank, remove the lid, and add water with it this way, though it is still not as convenient as simply opening up the tank and filling the D1. Still not sure whether to return the D1 as Phillips wants.

I don't quite understand the rationale of some very lucky people holding on, delay returning or refusing to return their DS1 units after they have received a brand new DS2 replacement unit. Who's really being affected/punished by doing such a thing? I do not think it is Philips, but it is the millions of people who are still waiting for a replacement unit (either a refurbished or a new one).

I understand that Philips is supposed to replace the recalled units with EITHER new DS2s OR refurbished DS1s (with the new foam). With millions of units recalled I would think that their plan (new + refurbs) may be the fastest way to have a "safe" machine delivered to everyone. I think it is reasonable to assume that DS2 production speed is maxed out. I do not know if Philips will actually proceed with the plan on doing refurbs on DS1s but if they do not have any old DS1s to refurb, obviously that cannot happen, cutting off a crucial second source of "safe" replacement machines.

I am one of the lucky ones who was able to procure an older ResMed S9 but I have several friends who are still waiting for their replacement units and do not have a choice but to expose themselves every night to the "bad" foam. Like most of the people in their situation, they just want to get a "safe" machine to use at night, new or refurbished.

I also find it ironic that I've seen several posts from people who received new DS2s say that they will just keep it in its original box to sit in their closet (for a variety of reasons) while millions of co-sleep apnea sufferers are eagerly waiting for their turn. Wondering how we could fix that problem.

The whole mess is Respironics fault--theirs alone.
Why should they expect their victims to help out?

Some notes from the most recent Earning Call from Philips - Jan 22
Let me now speak about the Respironics recall. The repair and replacement program is underway globally and we have substantially ramped up our production servers and repair capacity. To date we have produced over 1.5 million repair kits and replacement devices of which more than half have reached customers. We aim to complete the remediation program in Q4 2022.
I was going to post some more but they really did not discuss the process of how they are going to get replacement machines to customers...or if they were going to use replacement foam in machines sent in and send those back out.

There some talk about the VOC's, additional FDA required testing, and further testing of the actual foam parts being ingested in the body and the long term effects from that.

TBH, in reading the Earnings call, and the questions that came up from the reporters, I left with the feeling that these Exec's from Philips were being quite COCKY in their answers and that they think they're just going to get back market share and be the CPAP leader in the near future (2023). They blew off the lawsuits question, as I can understand, but seemed to also say, Hey, the doctors and DME's WANT US BACK!

It's as though this recall thing was something in the past for them...and they only look at more potential customers in the future as more and more people are being diagnosed with sleep apnea and other sleep conditions!

Here's the link, if you care to read it ----> https://seekingalpha.com/article/448118 ... nings-call

Oh, typical of a company to do...but it appears they fired everyone high up involved in their sleep management business...as though that is their sacrifice to the gods!

May those responsible be first in line to get everything they deserve.

In a way that statement is expected of someone who is obviously not waiting for a replacement unit. The "victims" you are talking about were already compensated. How about the other victims who are not? Sorry, don't quite follow the logic.

Once compensated, you are still a victim.
You were cheated by Respironics.
That has not changed.
And they may still demand your nasty old machine back.
Be careful what you sign.
The rip-off may get worse.

Absolutely, Philips is a publicly traded company and as such their only priority are the stockholders. Anyone would be a fool who expects them to say “we’re in trouble or we screwed up” in front of investors, analysts, media, etc.

Bottom line, yes Philips screwed up and there’s a lot of hate against them but I’d be scared of an industry run by a virtual monopoly. Also I see another opening for the Chinese to potentially dominate this lucrative market.
