Dreamstation2 received - you returning your DS1 to Phillips? (and complaints)

Post by mrpackerguy » Tue Feb 01, 2022 4:08 pm

First, I received my DS2 4 days ago. It's working, it's smaller and it's a bit quieter and that's about the only good things about it.

There's a return label to send back your DS1 to Phillips. Are you returning? Is there a consequence for not returning it as far as you can tell? I saw a post on the recall thread that one person thought you shouldn't return it in case you get involved in litigation due to a side effect of the DS1? Makes sense. But what's the probability of that - no one knows.

Second - On to the complaints:

- messed up water tank having to be removed from the back end of the unit to fill (and it's not even that easy to remove and replace) - how absurd
- non-adjustable fixed hose connection - how absurd
- unintuitive settings adjust - I can't get some of them to even take ( might be provider override) - how absurd
- need to disassemble unit to replace the filters - how absurd

Yeah, I have heard that many people are not very happy with the DS2. I should be getting one from Philips sometime. I figure it will be fine to keep as backup for my good machine.

So, still a nightmare?
Access to settings should be a given.
Let's see if the Oscar team has any ideas--
Or a link to the manual--the REAL one!

if/when i get a replacement, i'll prolly sell it on. i'm already invested in resmed and have been for years. and i have plenty of backups.

of course, heaven knows WHEN i'll get the replacement.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

On the filter are you sure about that?
I doubt the provider can lock you out.
I saw the water tank slide out from the side.

- Make the back end the front end and water tank removes from the front. Convenient this way.
- I have not had the need for an 'adjustable' hose (if you mean one that swivels on the unit).
- I haven't needed to make many setting adjustments on my DS2, but the ones I did were easy to find with the aid of the manual and a bit of patience.
- I fill my humidifier tank daily. With the humidifier tank removed the filter is easily accessed and easy to check and replace as needed.

Overall the DS2 is an improvement from the DS1. Consistently lower AHI numbers and quieter operation. Wife doesn't like the shiny black as dust shows up easily  .

I sent my DS1 back. It will likely be refurbished and sent to someone who needs one that couldn't otherwise afford to replace out of pocket a recalled one they have.

On the filter - yes, you have to slide the water tank off to get access to the filters

If I ever get a replacement machine it will probably be a year or so before i get around to sending one back. That seems to be acceptable to Phillips.

I have never had, or will have, a Philips in the house--except for screwdrivers.

Yep, I feel the same - O/T - I have been using the Sonicare brand of electric toothbrushes since the late 1990's. Back then, they were a small company out of Washington State. Sometime in the 2000's they were bought out by Philips and unfortunately, I have been a "Philips customer" since then for my replacement Sonicare toothbrushes and their products (ex. brush heads). Luckily, the quality of the product/brand has held up over time and as long as the quality remains, I'll continue to be a Sonicare (ehh, Philips) customer.

You likely don't have any Philips screwdrivers in the house, but you may have one or two Phillips screwdrivers
