If you do fedex tracking... Did your replacement ship from Respironics in Mt Pleasant, PA ? I have a fedex package coming tomorrow, which *fingers crossed*, I am hoping is my replacement DS2. It's been so long with NOTHING from them for notifications, but this showed up on my fedex account today.

The youtube video that you linked to is very nice, but seems to lack any citation or credit as to what University or medical college performed this side-by-side comparison. Yes, I see that it was posted by cpapsupplyusa, com, but did they conduct the test and produce the video?

The video was produced by ResMed and made available to its distributors.

You are free to buy Respironics machines.

Snores aren't part of any AHI that I have ever seen.
Neither are flow limitations.
The fact that ResMed doesn't confuse people with VS2 and VS snores is a positive and not a negative in my book.
I don't know why Respironics even reports VS2 snores because it doesn't do a damn thing about them except report them.
Resmed does not monitor snoring the same way.
[/quote]

Snoring is an indicator of respiratory obstruction and should be reported...Its either that or a very concerned partner will report it. That being said, you are correct. It should not be "counted" towards a bottomline AHI and it is NOT counted by Philips algo.
My apologies in regards to somewhat unclear remarks about snoring indices by Philips.
That being said, I thought it is only appropriate to delve further into reasonable debates about how Resmed algo fails to report an accurate AHI.
For this purpose I have enclosed three examples in a session that my Resmed ASV only reported ONE Hypopnea event and a series of "leaks" .
My AHI was reported by Resmed at only 0.24, despite the fact that when I look deep into the chart, there are endless examples of apnea/hypopnea events that Resmed has simply ignored.

I am not sure yet how to post images so they do not take huge space here, but I will learn later and hopefully my images won't occupy too much space in future. For now therefore I am only citing three examples.
My Breath Rate (BR) registers at a median of 12 Breaths/Min.
This means that I breath on average once every 5 seconds (full inspiratory cycle).
Below is a 16 seconds slice of my last session of Resmed.
There should have been a median of three breaths in this window. However as you can see I barely breathed for 15 seconds as my breathing was so shallow that the flow rate barely moved from Zero.
Furthermore mask pressure stayed merely unchanged.
This was a clear case of "Periodic breathing" or even "Hypopnea, yet Resmed failed to register any event, as seen on the graph.
Also, I am 6'2" at 200lb. My Tidal Volume (Vt) therefore should not be above 550 max, yet Resmed is delivering a whopping >1000Vt and that's only because Resmed algo doesn't care.
FYI, a persistent higher than needed Vt delivery can permanently damage lung tissue, leading to all kinds of pulmonary function problems.
.

.
This is a 30 seconds window of the same session, a few seconds earlier.
At a BR of 12/min, I should have breathed a median of at least 6 times during this period.
Yet the flow rate has barely changed throughout, indicating shallow breathing/Hypopnea, leading to complete cessation in the graph above.
Note how Vt is at nearly 900, far above my ideal Vt and again Resmed has recorded nothing in this period, none, nada, nill, kapoot:
.

.
The last example below is a 18 seconds window three hours earlier in the same session, during which the flow rate barely changes.
Again, I should have breathed at least 3 times in 18 seconds.
Resmed delivers 2 unsuccessful breaths as seen in Mask Pressure, shooting up my Tidal Volume OFF THE CHARTS. (it reminds me to make an appointment with my Pulmonary specialist to check my lungs out for damage caused by Resmed machine).
Yet Resmed records nothing, zero, nada.
.

.
In conclusion therefore and as I have stated throughout this discussion (highly on topic), Resmed algo only reports a lower AHI because it simply does not report on all actual events.
Please also note that I can easily cite several more examples, however this will take a lot of space in this thread.

Have a great day.

Even though I have had extensive experience with the use and functionality of several types of different PAP machines,no information in my posts should be put in practice unless cleared by your own medical practitioner first.

" . . .

They are no doubt more available, and cheaper. (Both meanings)
You get what you pay for--if you are lucky.

PLEASE NO MORE. You have taken up way too much band width trying to justify your own personal opinion.
You have accomplished that goal. Give it a rest.
You aren't going to change any minds that think ResMed's way of doing things is a better way....any more than others are going to change yours.

You are free to believe whatever you want. Others are also free to believe whatever they want.

OP does NOT have an ASV machine nor is he likely going to be getting an ASV machine...so ASV discussion is indeed off topic.
ASV machines are NOT regular cpap/apap machines. They can't be compared accurately anyway.
No more please....or it will be removed.
You made your point and others have made theirs. Time to move on. You have beat this dead horse to death.

Question for the OP (or anyone else): I just got a FedEx delivery notification. Can you confirm where your unit was shipped from? FedEx doesn't provide any real shipper information. I'm just curious if my replacement has finally shipped--still waiting on my DME to get units for replacement with a ResMed.
Sorry, I used the original shipping box to return the recalled DS1 and none of the paperwork I kept shows where it shipped from. But as far as I recall, it came from PA, and the FedEx tracking info online shows the originating address as being in Mount Pleasant, PA.

Your choice but if you want to use the new DS2....consider trying it with a couple more cm baseline pressure if you are using the auto adjusting mode.....just to see if it brings down your AHI a bit or not. When I used the Respironics I had to use minimum of 10 cm to get AHI between 1 and 2. When I made the switch to ResMed auto adjusting I found that I could get by with 7 cm minimum and still get that AHI between 1 and 2.
You may or may not be like me but it doesn't surprise me that with the same settings you used on the Respironics that your AHI is improved.

Now your situation...I would keep the DS 2 as a back up but not use it unless I had no other choice.
Everyone should always have a back up anyway.
Now that I think about it, I am NOT using the same pressure settings on the ResMed as I did on the DS. For the DS, I kept my AHI somewhere between 1 and 3 (usually) with a minimum setting of 10 and a maximum of 11.5. Any higher than that dried out the back of my throat horribly. I am (or was...until I started having constant leak problems--I am anxiously awaiting the delivery of my new nasal pillows, etc.) getting the lower AHI reading on the ResMed using a minimum pressure of 8 and max of 11. I might try the DS2 to compare it, if I ever feel motivated enough to learn how to tweak the settings. At the moment, I'd rather spend my time decorating Christmas cookies.

Thank you all for your input. Due to inertia, I am keeping the new DS as a backup and continuing to use the ResMed. I was very happy with it until I started having major leak problems, so I'm sure once I figure that out, I will be happy with it again. I do appreciate all the information (well, most of it--the parts that didn't make my eyes glaze over like Pugsy's!) and thoughts from the community.

Closely watching three or four youtube videos on fitting and adjusting your specific mask might be helpful.

Here's the nice part....you can do things at your own pace when or even if you want to or not. No rush at all except to eat those cookies.

Today is banana nut bread making again for me. Some dummy didn't buy eggs and used her last eggs yesterday on that batch of bread so the dummy has to go to the store and get more eggs. Has to be done today...the bananas won't last longer.
I am not into decorating stuff right now. Still dealing with some right hand limitations from my wrist surgery and the hand just can't deal with much that requires any sort of grip strength. I still can't even use scissors effectively. Besides...most of my friends and family would prefer my banana nut bread over cookies anyway.

Happy Holidays.

Banana nut bread is wonderful! Though you can freeze the bananas to bake with later, if you really don't feel like going to the store! :) I hope your holiday time is lovely, and that 2022 brings strength back to your right hand!

It's the same mask I've been using. I started getting more leaks using nasal cushions after years of using them successfully, so I switched to nasal pillows. Those were fine until recently. I know the one I'm using now is over the hill, and I probably need to replace my headgear, too. Due to the sudden switch to ResMed after the DS recall, I no longer have a good stash of replacement parts at the ready. :(

That said, when I get the new one, I'll review mask fitting and adjusting as you suggest. It's possible I've just gotten sloppy...

Thanks, that places the video in context, a marketing production.
