SIBO and CPAP
SIBO and CPAP
Has anyone been diagnosed with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and experiences bad stomach bloating that seems to be exacerbated by PAP use? I was diagnosed with it and it seems my bloating is always worse after using CPAP, whether that’s after a night of sleep or just a nap.

Re: SIBO and CPAP
What are your pressure settings?
Did you have any trouble at all before the last diagnosis?
If your min. setting is relatively high, have you tried lowering it a bit - the higher you go with it the more likely you'll have aerophagia (put that in the search bar here for lots of info).

Re: SIBO and CPAP
CPAP alone can cause bloating in a healthy digestive system when the pressure causes air to leak into the stomach and beyond. See aerophagia - https://www.cpaptalk.com/wiki/index.php/AerophagiaOkaythen wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 11:39 amHas anyone been diagnosed with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and experiences bad stomach bloating that seems to be exacerbated by PAP use? Re: SIBO and CPAP
I’m simply unable to determine if aerophagia is occurring. I do not experience burping or flatulence. I’ve had the bloating for several years now, but it’s only become severe in recent months. My settings were a pressure of 7 on CPAP, but now, as of five nights ago, a BIPAP pressure of 7/5.

Well we're not doctors = you need to see one asap to find out what's happening. Have you ever talked about aerophagia on the forum before?

No, I haven’t talked about it on here before. Sleep doctors are useless, including mine in Boston, who is considered one of the best in the world. Why do you think people post questions on these forums? Looks like I’ll be having to figure this out on my own.

Re: SIBO and CPAP
SIBO CAUSES bloating. But what I’m saying is that I also believe CPAP is making the bloating worse. Maybe I need a higher pressure in REM, which is where it seems I have the most difficulty.

Well there is your problem - you need to fart it out.
On another note, bloating can be normal, but it can also be a sign of serious conditions. In case you haven't read good articles, ----> https://vitalrecord.tamhsc.edu/9-reason ... -the-time/
I like these Instagram posts demonstrating normal bloating - https://www.self.com/gallery/bloat-roundup

Gross. I’m a male and you seem like you love farts. Glad you got off on this for today.
