Transfering EncorePro (program + data) to different computer
I will be using a different computer and I want to transfer the Encore Pro data to the new computer.
I was able to transfer my settings and files (email, documents, other programs etc) using the transfer wizard with the setting and file option.
I can install the Encore Pro and reader again, if transfer will not do it.
My big concern is the data. Will it show up once I install the Encore Pro? Would I need to transfer it separate. If yes, how would I do it?

You will need to install Encore Pro, and the Reader fresh on the new computer. You are supposed to be able to move the data, however the file is large. Mine failed (I think I got in a hurry) So I started from scratch. Jim

It can be done (at least done with version 1.4). This is a summary of what I did months ago in changing computers. The key was renaming the files that encore pro created on reinstall so it would not recognize them and put the old encore pro data files in the right folder so encore pro would find them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I transferred the files in the SQL data folder onto the new hard drive into some shared documents folder using my home network
Reinstall Encore Pro.
Go in to the SQL Data folder and find the encore pro data files that are created when you reinstall Encore Pro. You are looking for EncorePro.mdf and EncorePro_log.LDF as these seem to be what Encore Pro is looking for. Rename them (if you click on them there is a menu off the the left on my version of XP that has rename listed on it).
Take the transferred files from your old encore pro and move them into the SQL Data folder with the these other files you just renamed. If you need rename these to the above names if needed.
Now start Encore Pro and see!
This is what worked for me.

While I haven't tried it yet, if you have access to a MS SQL server 2000 cd, you can do a custom install and ONLY install the client tools.
Then you can use SQL Enterprise Manager to backup your existing Encore Pro database and restore it to the new computer.
Although, what Jules suggested should also work, and for most people would be eaier then trying to install the SQL client tools.
One thing to keep in mind though, you will need to have the SQL (MSDE) server stopped before trying to rename or copy any files.

In my version of EncorePro I believe you can Export Patient and then Import Patient. It creates an XML file.

Re: Transfering EncorePro (program + data) to different comp
As cwsanfor pointed out, the proper method is as follows:SelfSeeker wrote:I will be using a different computer and I want to transfer the Encore Pro data to the new computer.
1. Install Encore Pro on the new computer
2. Export the Patient data on the old PC (Using "Export Patient" under Other Tasks menu)
3. Copy the created XML file to the new computer
4. Import the patient data on the new PC (Using "Import Patient" under Common Tasks)
Thats all there is to it. It works great (both export and import are very slow functions, be patient). I wouldn't try to copy the files that make up the actual database (end users need not be mucking at that level). Use the functions provided by Encore Pro (described above) to perform the desired transfer.

You can zip the exported file if you need to move it across a slow network or email it. These XML files compress very very well.Goofproof wrote:You will need to install Encore Pro, and the Reader fresh on the new computer. You are supposed to be able to move the data, however the file is large.
PDF files will not help you in a transfer. I guess they where recommending it as a printable record in case you mess up your existing computer? If you use Encore Pro's features for transferring patient data there is no danger.Anonymous wrote:How would I make a PDF file?
Then how would I transfer the file?

James thanks for sharing suggestions.
Where we stand today.
Yesterday, we (husband) exported a patient with one day info. No problem. (Not my file/name)
The computer would "not respond" each time my patient file was attemtped to be exported. This took a few hours of very slow work and waiting.
Do not know how to zip them.
Much earlier yesterday, when I used the transfer wizzard, the data did not get transfered. (that I know of)
Two things to try today:
The way Jules said; and
I am thinking of taking the files and putting them in the shared directory by changing the name of the file.
All suggestions are welcome.

Even on a fast computer this export/import function is very slow. During the process Encore Pro appears to be locked up/not responding but in evey case that I have had if I leave it long enough it does eventually finish. How fast is your computer and how long did you wait for the export to happen?

Thanks James.
Just learned that fact.
518 MHZ slow.
I will try the tranfer again and wait at least 30 minutes or until the hard drive stops working.
If that does not work, I will defrag and try again.
Will update again later.

I've got a 1.2GigHz machine and I have had a few imports/exports take almost a half hour (and yes I started to think the application had hung as well )SelfSeeker wrote: I will try the transfer again and wait at least 30 minutes or until the hard drive stops working.
I suspect if you wait long enough it will complete.
Having said that, clearly Encore Pro was not well designed in this regard since its UI locks up during these functions (Beside the fact that these functions should not be so slow). Looks like they are using the main thread to do these functions instead of passing them off to a worker thread.
