because I have allergies and nasal congestion.
I used to have a daily morning sneezing fit right after getting up and congestion in the mornings.

May be coincidental but after I got both pneumococcal vaccines (PCV13 and PPSV23) about a year and half ago, I stopped having those problems.

I will now try the sweatband over my mouth.
please let me know if it works for you or not.
I just picked up some sweatbands. I will let you know how it works out after a couple of nights. I am going to use it in combination with the one vertical strip of tape. I bet it will help.
Guess what? The sweatband worked! My leaks went down to 7 L/min. My AHI did move up to 7 for some reason. I did wake up with some gas in my stomach. So, really good news. Thanks.

That's interesting. I've had those vaccines, but no such luck.

If I remember correctly, you threw out the potted chrysanthemum that was on your nightstand the day you were vaccinated.

Great.

I think using the vertical tape with it is a plus. I would try it myself, but I have a full beard. Vertical taping will not work for me. It is why I use the conglomeration I have come up with. I have tried the band alone. It helped some, but would not seal well enough. The bands will stretch eventually. Washing brings them back a few times.
I also like the way they absorb mouth dampness. :)

Hi Mlandu33
If you disconnect the mask in the morning but leave your Dreamports attached to your nostrils, you can put your thumbs over each of those and see if blowing out air through your nose leaks out around the sticky parts on your skin. ChicagoGranny’s question about dry mouth is the other way to tell if it is coming through your lips. I do that Bleep pressure test some mornings, and only once or twice were my leaks caused by the dreamport coming slightly undone. My lips are the culprit for me, so I double tape them (horizontally) at night, or add Polident on the lips before taping (it helps my situation).
I am a big-time mouth breather, it seems like the only way I get by is with tape. I have tried Somnifix but they generally fail. 3M surgical tape works the best but it creates sores around the lips. I see that you mentioned double taping, with what kind of tape? What is polident and how is it used?

Do you use a cervical collar? Properly fitted it will keep ones jaw from dropping and causing the tape/Somnifix failure (probably  ).

As Chicago Granny correctly pointed out I meant Poligrip. I use the original formula (not Super) as it is zinc-free. I’ve tried the squeeze tube cream, but find it messier (gets on my teeth, and takes longer to wipe off my lips). So I bought a packet of strips, and use about 1.5 strips on my lips. I don’t wet them, as licking my lips works and my drool in the night continues the process of moistening the material. When I use the denture strips along with tape I don’t get leaks.

I have used various tapes. Yes, I have some sore areas from the 3M micropore tape, and I also find it doesn’t hold up to drool. When I double tape with that I overlap - one strip horizontally across my pursed lips, then another from the line where the two lips come together and going lower. Sometimes with vertical strips at the corners of my mouth. All with folded over ends, so I can pull off easily.

Now, I’m using an athletic “KT” style tape (different name brand I can’t remember). Again I fold over the top corners to provide a pull tap for removal. It is porous, more than the 3M, so I usually put a piece of blue painters tape over that. Low to no leaks. If I combine that with the Poligrip strips on my lips there are absolutely zero leaks. If I wanted to allow just slight lip leaks, I would use the “KT” tape only (it allows air through, but not at the “large leak” warning level - I am experimenting if this is useful for my expiratory Palatal Prolapse issue.
