Make mask or skin less slippery so mask won't slip

Post by RRR » Thu Aug 26, 2021 10:44 am

I use the ResMed F30 mask with generally very good results. I notice that when first using a new F30 mask there is a slightly sticky or "tacky" feel to the silicon that helps it stick to the face. After a while this is lost and the bottom part of the mask tends to slip up out of the groove in the chin up towards the lower lip or over the lower lip causing it to leak.

Is there anything people have used to apply to the mask or the skin to restore that tacky texture to help the mask stick to the skin and not slip?

Thank you!

This is one reason I wash my nasal pillow every morning. I just use a facial cleanser, I've tried different ones (whatever I'm using on my face at the time) and it usually does the trick.

Could it be the mouth is opening and/or the jaw is dropping? This is a common problem. A firm foam cervical collar helps many of us with this problem.

If you can't increase friction via the mask, you could try wiping oils off your skin with an alcohol prep pad before you go to bed. At my pharmacy, they're in the diabetes supply section.

That's what I use to wipe down the mask each morning. Quick, gets skin oil off the mask, cheap, not much waste for the landfill.

Same here. Much better than baby wipes for restoring tackiness.

Alcohol sounds like an excellent plan.
I use baby wipes, but I may try an alcohol prep pad, & see if my leak rate drops.

I never thought about tackiness and the type of wipes. Would have to look at an ingredient list, but baby wipes seem to contain some type of oil.

It looks like the expression "extract" is code for oil; specifically if a plant is mentioned.
Aloe seems to always appear near the bottom of ingredient lists, after preservatives.
Probably so they can say it's "in there", but not how much. :?

I use CPAP wipes to clean my mask every morning and I wash my face and then use an alcohol pad on my skin before bed where the mask comes in contact, so I don't think the problem is oily skin. I was thinking of some kind of adhesive or something to make the skin a little stickier to make the mask less likely to slip. I saw something online called Skin Tite, but that may be stronger than I need. I was wondering if anyone had success using something along these lines.

Thanks,
Richard

Back where it all started. The world's first CPAP mask (1979) was glued to the nose of a dog. Now the world has Bleep which is glued to the faces of humans.

Are you sure your jaw isn't dropping and the mask is staying put, just in the mouth area? I do not see how it would slide up because of the way it cradles the nose.
Cervical collar to keep jaw in position is one solution. Best for me, anyway. :)

+1

I asked the same question and got no reply. As you know, that mask cradles firmly under the nose and seems impossible to slide up.

They say the third time is the charm. Will someone step up to help us?
