Switched to ResMed; loving it

Post by ThisIsMyUserName » Thu Aug 19, 2021 1:01 pm

I was ultra-annoyed to hear that my CPAP may have been doing me harm, and it was a huge pain in the neck (and uber-expensive) to get a ResMed machine, but I am so much happier with my new machine. I've used PR for a decade and never tried ResMed. Am I the only one who finds ResMed way better than PR or did I just miss this unknown fact? Way quieter, love waking up to an interface with some simple stats, and my AHI is much lower for the same settings.

Your experience is common, I've only seen two people, (I think) that tried both and said they liked Respironics better. Maybe three.

the more time you spend here, the more you'll here both veteran and newbies saying much the same thing.

it is known.

but maybe not outside of cpaptalk?
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I have heard that you get what you pay for.
And if it matters--it's worth it.
I gotta have my Ghirardelli chocolate, Claussen pickles,
and Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset for her.
But not at the same time, of course!

I also switched about 2 months ago from the Pr to the resmed airsense 10 and I'm findinding my numbers are considerably better . I have one question though. I have the machine set to auto humid and heat and I'm finding that it uses more water than the pr ever did . the old pr could get 2 nights without a fill but the resmed needs a fill not top up every day. I'm not sure if its the size of the tank but I am buying more distilled water with the resmed. average sleep same as the pr , about 7-8 hours daily.
Any thoughts? I do like the machine but the heated hose is a bit stiffer than the one on the PR. Minor detail.

So, turn the humidity down.

If you want the hose softer, toss it in the dryer for about a minute.

I would agree, i just switched to an Autosense 10 and i think i'm sleeping better.

I actually have two now, a "for her" model with a few thousand hours on it and a regular one that is new. The used one is extremely quiet. The new one makes some motor sounds. I actually had to return my first new one because it became extremely noisey after the first night. I wonder if they have cut some corners in manufacturing recently.

I have had some challenges with the used one, the prevoius owner uses some kind of air freshener which the hoses, motor housing, and humidifier seals seem to have absorbed. I've washed and soaked, and its comming around pretty well. The used climateline hoses are a lost cause. The machine itself is just about cleaned up. I may have to replace the humidifier.

I would agree with the general sentiment. I had a Resmed Air 10 which died. I replaced it with DreamStation since there was a bargain. I generally found my AHI higher and my sleep less restful with the Phillips. I think its the slow response algorithm. With the recall, I've switched to using my ResMed Air Mini full time and my sleep seems a ton better. I've questioned whether it was related to no longer using a humidifier, but I have been used the HumidX F20 which seems to have helped make the machine more tolerable.

I started out with an AirMini, cos I needed to travel a lot. Then I had a tonsillectomy and started to really need humidity, so I switched over to the DreamStation Go with the heated humidifier.
While the humidifier was a nice welcome, I found that just about every other aspect was inferior.
I had to manually close the vents and breath in a out HARD in order to get it to auto start.
Ramp functionality was not automatic, you have to tap the screen to get it into ramp.
Water tank was small.
and the worse thing about it, the whole #foamgate saga.

I've just switched over to an airsense 10 (since I'm no longer travelling) and it is really so much better.

AHI is better
auto start works just with a gentle breath
Water tank is huge
Heated hose is a luxury I never knew I loved
It is SILENT

Additional Comments: Uses a Dreamwear hybrid full face mask for travel as it packs a lot flatter than the F20. But it's a little noisier.

Yes its weird but its turned out for the best because the ResMed is much better for me too. Philips is also incapable of making decent software, the app is fiddly garbage.

As an extra bonus, there are no carcinogens, which is nice.
