Hello to all,
I am new to CPAP talk today. I found this site while searching for new things about sleep apnea. I have a Question for anyone who maybe can answer it. Has anyone noticed bloating and stomach discomfort in the morning when they get up? I have only noticed these symptoms recently and just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced the same problem and if they did what did you do to correct the problem?
Other than that I do not mind wearing my CPAP and am glad that I have it. My doctor has talked to me about gettting the surgery but from what I have read that can be very painfull and there is no guarantee that I won't have to continue to use the CPAP. There is new hope though in my search today I found a procedure called Somnoplasty where they use Radio Frequencys to shrink the tissues that are causing the blockage of the airway. From what I read it is not very painfull at all and has great promise as an allternative to invasive surgery. Well I don't want to go on forever so I will say good bye for now and hope for a response to my question

Howdy Soucie,
Welcome to cpaptalk.com.
What you have that bloated feeling it is called Aerophagia. It means you are swallowing air and it is getting into your intestinal tract. It is not a serious conditioni, just a bit uncomfortabe.
You should give your doctor a call and tell them about your issues. The doc may want to back your pressure off or put you on a cflex style machine.
It just takes some work to get everything dialed in. Then you wil be good to go.

I know the feeling of being embarassed but your boy friend needs to know that this is a serious thing and that you have to wear this because if you don't you could die. If the person your with judges you still after you have expained why you have to wear CPAP then maybe it is not meant to be. Having to wear this is nothing to be embarassed about it is a way of life. I hope this helps a little bit.

I experienced bloating from swallowing air during the night, in fact, I felt like a balloon in the morning and sometimes awoke during the night. I had an initial pressure of 17 but had lost 26 lbs in the first 9 months of using the CPAP so my doctor reduced my pressure to 14 and the bloating has greatly subsided, though I still occasionally have it depending on my sleep position. Speak to your doctor about it when you have your follow up with him/her.
Kathy,
I read your response concerning your boyfriend. I am going through the same thing. I haven't gotten my machine yet, but my boyfriend is a very, very light sleeper. I really thought that maybe this would be the end for us. However, I have scared him on several occasions with the apnea. He's very anxious for me to get on the machine so I can sleep and breathe normally.

Bloating will lessen in time as you learn to breath better. I had more bloating at the beggining of tx then now 2 month latter. Also, what helps me, when I'm aware of air escaping through my mouth, is to start taking deep breaths and it seams that pushes air down where its suppose to go and this prevents mouth breathing and snoaring:) I don't know what is happening on those nights when I take sleeping pill, but my husband doesn't complain so I must be doing good.
Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe!
