Eligible for new CPAP - What to get?
Eligible for new CPAP - What to get?
Hi,
So I have been using the Philips Dreamstation for the past 5 years and am able to get a new machine. With the recall, I am using a very basic machine I purchased as a backup a few years ago, the Resmed Airstart 10.
My DME can get me a Resmed AirSense10 AutoStart, but I am thinking it make be worth waiting for the AirSense11 to come out. It sounds like it could be available this month, but not finding a release date.
What are your thoughts?
Get the AirSense10
or
wait for the AirSense11 and use my AirStart10 for the time being?
Thanks,

Personally, I would take whatever you can get. Machines are in short supply. Some people are on long waiting lists to get a machine.

Re: Eligible for new CPAP - What to get?
We don't know a lot about the AirSense 11 model line yet. We know a lot about the AirSense 10.
Are you one of those people that just likes to have the latest and greatest of anything? If you are...I would wait for the AirSense 11.
I hear that ResMed isn't going to cease production of the AirSense 10 when the 11 is released like what normally happens when they release a new model. This time they are going to be manufacturing both models at the same time for a while because of the obvious shortage the recall has caused. They see an market and are going to capitalize on it.
It's not like you don't have a decent enough machine to use in the meantime.
All depends on how you are in general with latest and greatest of anything. I know some people who just have to have it and others who could care less. You probably know which you are.
Me...there is a lure for the latest and greatest. I admit it...but then I love to experiment and try new things and all that stuff. I don't always yield to the lure but I admit having it. Whether I yield or not usually depends on cost out of my pocket. If I was letting insurance pay for a new machine for me....I would wait for the AirSense 11.
If buying out of pocket I would look for a good deal on a AirSense 10. I am a cheapskate.
My husband...no lure at all and in fact just went from a flip phone to smart phone not long ago.
I guess it's a good thing that only one of us has the latest and greatest bug.

Re: Eligible for new CPAP - What to get?
Thanks for the information. I don't always need to have the latest and greatest, but figured if it was not a long wait it made sense to have a device not near its EOL. The AirStart 10 has been ok, but I do really miss the AutoStart and heated tube I had on my dream station. As far as I can tell, there is no way for me to see if it's working well or not. Not seeing the nightly AHI anywhere. Still waiting to hear back from my DME on timing to get either machine, before I make a decision. Thanks,Pugsy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:25 amWe don't know a lot about the AirSense 11 model line yet. We know a lot about the AirSense 10.

how reliable is your source on that? cuz that would be GREAT if they continued production, even for awhile.Pugsy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:25 am

Re: Eligible for new CPAP - What to get?
I don't think the AirStart offers anything but hours of use in terms of data.
You can go into the clinical start up menu and look for a setting choice called "Essentials"...if you see it you can change it from "On" to "Plus" and get summary AHI.
If you don't see "Essentials" anywhere you are out of luck.
If memory serves me...some of the AirStart models might have offered summary AHI numbers depending on the model and the age...earlier ones didn't but later ones did....I think.
Easy to check though.
If you do have Essentials and can change it to plus...there is a sleep report available on the LCD screen that gives what little data...generic AHI total....maybe.

Perfect! I changed it to plus. Don't see AHI in the sleep report yet, but hopefully shows up after I use it tonight. Thanks!

Re: Eligible for new CPAP - What to get?
I don't know where it shows up ....if it shows up on the LCD screen....
You might get the real manual and look and see if you have to push any special buttons to see the Sleep report on it.
I think you can get the clinical manual here.
