Quick Question About Cleaning AirFit N30i Frame

Post by kersey » Wed Aug 04, 2021 2:02 am

My DME just sent me a new AirFit N30i. They use the term "Frame" to refer to the part of the silicone tubing that connects from the main hose to the nasal pillow.

Here's a pic of the frame, just so I'm being clear: https://cpapsupplies.com/resmed-airfit- ... e-assembly

Okay, question: Should I run water thru the frame daily?

I'm concerned because my last N30i frame turned sort of a gross orange...even though it didn't have many hours on it at all. Some people suggested that I might have stored it with moisture inside. Very possible because I didn't use it for almost a year during which I had stopped trying to make the CPAP work for me.

But I'm also concerned maybe I wasn't supposed to run water thru it every morning.

Here's a pic of what happened to the last one. The sheet behind it is white.

You don't need to run water through the frame daily at all.

I have no idea if moisture inside the frame during storage will cause that discoloration BUT all silicone will age and turn colors once expose to the air even if never messed with or used or washed.

I once found a nasal pillow sitting in my dresser drawer for months and months (forgot it was there) and OMG the color was a deep yellow. UGLY color and it had never been used or washed or anything except taken out the package for sizing and since I didn't like the size I tossed it in the dresser drawer with my socks and forgot it....until I cleaned out the sock drawer months later.

Sometimes silicone will age and yellow even if still in the official sealed package....takes a long long time though...years and years. I have had cushions and seals donated that were obviously for very old model masks and a lot discontinued and even still sealed in the package they are yellow with age.

Would moisture accelerate the aging process??? Dunno but I would think very possible that it would since even plain air will do it.

I use the same mask/frame and it's the most comfortable one I've tried so far.

My frame is doing the same thing and I've never washed it in the six months I've been using it. The only thing that goes through it is filtered air, so I can't see the need to disassemble everything to wash it.

Just to be clear. You're NOT using any type of ozone "cleaner" device, are you?

Silicone cpap stuff tends to discolor over time. there's a thread (or three) out there about rejuvenating stuff by boiling it in baking soda water, here's one: https://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=74686 unfortunately the pics are broken, but the text and commentary are still there.
