Dents in my head from straps
Dents in my head from straps
Is there a layer of fat between my skull and scalp? I’m wondering because the straps from my mask seem to be re-shaping my head. I have dents and mis-shapen areas all day long. I shave my head so it’s painfully obvious. People have commented etc.. Oh the joys of CPAP!

Yes, there is fat under our skin and over our skull.
The amount is generally similar to elsewhere on our bodies.
Some folks use a buff or skullcap to cushion the headgear.
Karen at Padacheek.com makes mask liners and strap liners.
She is a long time cpap user and forum member.
Most important of all, banish vanity from your thoughts.
If some smarta$$ makes a negative comment about your lines,
you have my permission to bump their beer so it spills on their shirt.
So everyone will see their man-boobs.

What if I also have man boobs!
Thanks for the response. I’m familiar with pad-a-cheek and use their product (the full wrap cover) for the bottom straps and back of the neck. While it definitely helps I find the material far too thin to accomplish what I need. I had to cut a strip of chamois cloth and feed it through between the wrap and the strap to provide an extra layer of padding. I still wake up with deep marks in my neck every day but I’ve just normalized it at this point.
Regarding the top strap. Initially I left it bare and it would create a depression that ran laterally across my head (ear to ear). Now I am shoving prices of foam and extra pieces of pad-a-cheek in a few places under the strap and that has helped to distribute the pressure to a wider area but now I wake up with weird dents in the places I put the foam and padding.
Regarding the upper cheek straps. Deep marks daily. The straps come so close to my eyes that I cannot use pad-a-cheek covers as it interferes with my eyes all night.
The dents in my skull are there all day and night. The marks on my face and neck seem to go away after about 3 hrs. It sucks when my job is public facing.

I'm well aware. Thanks.palerider wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 11:45 amNo straps! https://www.cpap.com/productpage/bleep- ... -cpap-mask
I can't use nasal masks. I tried for over a year.
Were you the one who has tried all the masks (just about)? I remember there was a guy or gal one here, something like 16 masks and still trying. I can't recall his/her name but I'd be curious to know how it's going. I'm basically in the same boat.

Re: Dents in my head from straps
I hear ya. Of course it could always be worse.
But still if it can be better, I'd like to find out how. Considering the dents never go away, then the reality is that it's actually re-shaping my head. And not in a good way. I was thinking about cutting off the bill of an old baseball cap and trying that. Another thing I considered was maybe a thick piece of leather.

Do not know if this would work in your case. Not too expensive.
Just thought I would throw it out there.

Re: Dents in my head from straps
I did get a pad to use on a camera bag strap. It stopped the dent in my head. Now my hair is breaking off on the top of my head.
I even bought a satin cap to wear. It doesn't seem to be helping. Any other ideas?

Re: Dents in my head from straps
I made padding for my mask straps out of memory foam. If you have an unused piece around, it can be cut into strips whatever size/thickness you want with an electric knife. Then I sewed some simple tubes out of soft fabric (rib knit) and slid them over the straps and slid the memory foam strips in there. They stay put for the most part and it helps some. I do still get some lines and it's really annoying but they seem to fade instead of becoming permanant. I just hate how the mask straps break my hair off where they go across but I can't seem to get used to any of the masks that don't use straps. You could try the Bleep, though!
oops, sorry, I see you tried the Bleep. How about the tap-pap?

Re: Dents in my head from straps
Do you have overall inflammation and edema? That could account for the deep dents.
You might also take a look at this: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pursle ... rap-cotton (chin strap may not be necessary)
Or maybe you have the straps way too tight? It might be worth looking into another mask that you don't have to have so tight to avoid leaks.
