Hi to all, recently was put on Bipap was on CPAP 18cm H2O now 23/18cm H2O. I looked on my screen in the Efficacy Data and see Leak 66L/min then VT 400-650 Resp Rate 15-19 MV 7.0-11.6 AHI 1.1 AI 0.0. being new to readings I like to know what is VT and MV. also machine set on spontaneous I feel better since I have been retested and on this set up but would like to know as I look at these numbers what they mean.
Thanks Tony
Resmed VPAP III
Tony,
The AHI (ai & HI) look very very good. Your CMS is sure high (you must have a great mask )
The MV stands for Minute Ventilation (I used a VPAP III last night & my MV varied constantly all night between 5 & 20 lpm - yours shows as constant but about half that. The MV basically indicates how much air is going into you per minute (minus any leaked air).
My leak was 0.02 which indicates I have a very nicely fitted mask (a UMFF).
Also in the VPAPs you get to set what type of mask is being used and this shows as correct if you get 0 leak rate & the reality backs that up (no real leaks). Your leak rate looks unusually high, at best it should be zero. Is the mask set correctly into the VPAP ?.
The Resp rate is the rate at which you breath - my was av 14 last night.
The other figure VT would be tidal volume - this is the average total flow of air per minute in.

CMS?
Thanks for your response. but what is CMS? I am using a ultra Mirage Full Face Large the sleep study was done with a medium and Lincare gave me large. Tough time keeping from leaking at 23/18cm H2O. I talked with new clinican just now and she will switch to the medium.
Thanks Tony
Thanks Tony
Tony CMS is another way of saying CM of H2O (but abbreviated )
Just make sure your mask is the same as the one set in the menu of the VPAP - you are able to change that yourself from the patient menu.
I guess you have the 2i heated humidifier attached to the machine ? a humidifier can make a difference to some of the data.
I agree about how hard it is to prevent leaks at those pressures - I can get by at 15 CMS (CM of H2O) but at 16 I start to get squeaks as air finds its way out. I have the Resmed Ultra MIrage Full Face Mask - standard size.

mask setting
DSM yes I just went into Clinician menu (saw how it was done in another question on S8 unit). well mask was set at ultra, I changed it to ultra full.
I have found by washing my face just before bed and cleaning mask face contact area. helps with getting few leaks, Ialso for most of the time lay on my back and very rarely lay to my left side. My wife has made note of this.
Thanks again for your help. I will keep watching this site to learn more.

Humidifer
DSM also forgot I did get a 2I humidifer and that works great. with my Aria LX I had a passover one that helped in the winter but this 2I even better, also very easy to clean.
Talk to you soon.
