Leaks, yes they are horrid

Post by theknottycrow » Sun Jul 18, 2021 8:43 am

I have been having CPAP treatment for 7 years.
I have a Resmed S10 Airsense machine.
I have tried every mask under the sun and am still being driven crazy by mask leaks.
They wake me up all through the night.
I have tried nasal, nasal pillows and about 6 different full face masks (I sleep with my mouth open).
The next one I am trying is the Airtouch F20 with the memory foam on July 23rd or 24th.
Can anyone recommend this mask for less leaks, or any other mask for less leaks.
I feel like I've wasted 7 years of $$$$$.
Do the manufacturers do this on purpose?

hyperbole, how does it work?

recommend going to youtube, search for mask fitting videos (include whichever mask you want in the search field) and start watching.

I think some of us just have faces that are harder to fit, and add mouth breathing to that and you get a difficult situation. You just have to keep trying until you find the best combination of things to make it work. It can be extremely frustrating.

My old sleep doctor's office had a nurse that devoted all her time to getting people set up with the right mask and machine. She had every mask in there and she could look at your face and make a good guess as to which masks you should try, then you could sit there and try each one long enough to make some choices. That was ideal. I no longer go to that office, but now we can order masks with insurance and return them if they don't fit or work right for us, so there's no need to waste money, except on the mask insurance if it is extra.

At CPAP.com, you can return most masks within 30 days and get a refund. I've done this, and it works. If I recall correctly, I did need to pay the return shipping, but that was all.

To OP - Not all masks of a given style are identical. I tried the DreamWear and ResMed pillows, both without success. BUT then I tried the Fisher & Paykel Brevida, and the angels began singing. I'm no expert, but it seems that Brevida's engineered differently. I have to really TRY to get it to leak. So if you have tried other pillows but not Brevida, may I suggest giving it a try. Good Luck. Masks are the hardest part of PAP therapy.

Out of all the full face masks I've tried I found that the cushion on the F20 was the absolute best at preventing leaks. I tend to get oily skin where the full face masks sit so the cushion was the best option. Just don't over tighten it. Also I recommend changing it when it starts wearing down cause it will start leaking. I switched to a nasal mask (which is a pain in the @$$) because I found that the full masks were causing deep wrinkles around my mouth, otherwise my choice would definitely be the F20.

I believe so cause nowadays just about everything can be altered and forged. I'm one of the worst when it comes to trying to save money but that's why I'm always reminding myself "sometimes you get what you pay for.

(I sleep with my mouth open).
The Brevida is a nasal/pillow mask.

When you switch between nasal, pillow and full masks. Make sure your machine settings are changed to the type of mask you are using.
That might be some of your leaks.

I liked the PICO and loved the Brevida but I have mouth breathing issues.
I switch between the f20 and the f30 due to one I can wear my reading glasses and the other I cannot.
I prefer the silicone rather than the foam seal.

The head frame may have also aged and stretched so a refitting may need to be done.
