AHI levels used in sleep tests for sleep apnea

Post by sleepcrapnea » Sat Jun 19, 2021 1:26 pm

The diagnostic for sleep apnea for sleep studies use a minimum AHI of 5 per hour to be classed as sleep apnea.

However, why is under 5 per hour classed as the normal range? Is it common for most people to get an AHI of 3 or 4? When I say most people I mean the entire human population not just those who have sleep apnea. What is the average AHI across the total population? Anyone know?

They had to pick something (or so they thought), so 5 was it... but most here try to hover from e.g. 2 1/2 or less. But one night at 3 or 4 will not send you to Cpap jail.

The last time I checked the entire human population the average AHI was 3.92. I'll check again next month.

My AHI went down by 0.25 from the night before, so take 0.00000000006125 of the world average AHI.
