I am surprised that cpaps have been so easy to get into the clinical menu considering it is an rx device.
Think about powerful drugs. The patient only needs to be able to get the cap off to make adjustments. 8)

I have made tons of adjustments on my insulin pump. When I make a visit to my endocrinologist I just tell her. No problems. I don’t think any device should only be adjustable by a doctor or DME. Just like the medicine bottle.

Yep. The insulin adjustment has been used here as a good analogy to CPAP adjustment. If the FDA does not interfere with patient adjustment of insulin, WTH would they interfere with patient adjustment of CPAP setting? Oh, yeah, government bureaucracies use perverse logic.

Perverse.
It stands to reason.

I really like the new latest and greatest in tech. I really dont know i that applies to CPAP, I dont know how much they can improve it. I dont think the algorithm would change in a new model. Maybe Phillips will have a better way of auto starting so i dont have to take so many deep breaths to start the machine. Resmed does a great job of it!

I like the latest tech too. You would think the algorithm would be the most difficult part to change given the testing, approval process and peer reviewed papers that would need to be written to really sell it. OTOH, one of the biggest knocks Dreamstation gets seems to be on the algorithm.

As Pugsy wrote, it will be interesting to see where this device is tested, approved and released first. I don't know how a company like Respironics decides where to release - path of least resistance or EU and US at the same time.

CPAP machines are FDA Class II devices. The process for marketing a modified algorithm is much simpler than what you are implying. FDA Premarket Approval is not required for Class II devices. Not even if every component of the machine is new.

Wow. I did not know that. That is a bit discouraging (understatement) and makes the peer-reviewed studies that come out after the fact all the more important.

My experience has been that reviews from knowledgeable users are more valuable, more timely, and much less expensive than any peer-reviewed study.

Fortunately I listened to the advice on this board and purchased a Resmed first.
