Oracle 452

Post by evelyn_sc@yahoo.com » Tue Jan 09, 2007 1:15 pm

My boy friend uses the Fisher Paykel Flexifit 431 full face mask. The design on this product is supposed to be for mouth breathers. The problem he encounters is the mask actually keeps his mouth closed and gives him a feeling of suffocation in the middle of his sleep. He removes the mask then. Fisher Playkel is recommending this product.

Has anyone had experience with this mask?

Maybe his pressure is too low or he's congested. Most full face masks actually help promote nasal breathing......which is the preferred method of using this therapy. Mouth breathing should only be a last resort, like when a person has a cold. There are, however, some specialized mouth-masks for that type of breathing.

Best wishes,

The 431 ... like the 432 is an under the chin fitting FF mask.

He may have one that is too small.

As Den mentioned ... check to see that his machine pressure is set correctly.

The Oracle may have other issues if he cannot maintain a seal to keep leaks from his nose and humidity issues may also become problematic with the Oracle ... he may want to consider the ResMed Ultra Mirage FF mask instead.

evelyn_sc@yahoo.com,

I apologize......I got a little confused when I read this post yesterday. The subject said Oracle 452 (which is a mouth-breathing mask), and when I referred to specialized mouth-masks, I was actually thinking of the Oracle 452, but when I read your first sentence about the F&P 431 and then you followed it up with this sentence "The design on this product is supposed to be for mouth breathers.", I thought you were referring to the 431 and not the 452.

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisher ... -mask.html

OK......now I've probably confused EVERYBODY ELSE.....but at least I now know what you were referring to in your post.

I haven't had any experience with the 452.....but I THINK I've seen it listed a time or two in some of the user's profiles. Maybe somebody else has.

I love the Oracle-but from what I have read;I am the exception to the rule!
My biggest complaint about the Oracle-is the nose plugs which must be used . F/P states you can "train" yourself to 100% mouth breathe and don't need the nose plugs after a few weeks. Well, I failed that part of training-lol
After 6 months I still need the nose plugs.
F/P also says the mask can be used without headgear. I failed that part also- The few times I have ventured and tried to lose the headgear-my mouth has opened enough during the night and the mask has popped out.
