Airfit P10 Leaking every night...

Post by joeljjk11 » Tue Apr 06, 2021 8:45 am

I recently replaced my Airfit P10 mask assembly kit (the tube and cushion without the headgear) because it was old and also recently replaced the headgear a few weeks ago. I use the medium size pillows and up until I replaced the mask assembly kit I had zero leakage. Not sure what happened, but I noticed that there is a lot more air coming out of the vents than the previous assembly kit, but it is almost too much air and does not seem right to me. I also tightened my chinstrap (black Philips Respironics one) so I do not believe I am breathing through my mouth. My leakage is around 8-12 every night since I replaced these parts. I have tried fiddling with the mask, taking off and putting the cushion back on, etc. I also clean the vents with a toothbrush almost every day so they are not clogged or anything. I am wondering if the mask assembly that I received is faulty and leaking when it should not be. This is the first time this has happened to me with the P10 and I have never had any issues with it. Anyone have any suggestions or experience where this happened to them also? Thanks!

Also the assembly kit is for the large pillows because I was using those previously. But I thought the cushion sizes were interchangeable with the frame? Unless the frame I received is only designed for the large pillows and is that is why it is leaking? Who knows.

All sizes of the P10 pillows will fit the frame.

I wonder if maybe some of the vent holes on the old frame were maybe blocked and thus decreasing the air flow????
Did you ever clean out the vent holes?

Yes every night I would clean the vent holes with a toothbrush and wash them. I have continued doing that with the new frame. I am at a loss as to why I am getting so much leakage every night.

Do what I call an awake test for about 15 minutes so you know for sure you aren't leaking somewhere and then look at the leak line to see what the baseline leak is for that 15 minutes. It should be 0.0 or very close and if it isn't then we start looking for holes or connection issues.

I have had enough of this and replaced the assembly kit and the hose just to make sure it was not the hose that was faulty. We will see what the leakage is tonight. I inspected the P10 small hose and large ClimateLine hose and did not notice any holes or anything that would obviously be causing this.

Did you ever do an awake test?

I did the test for about 5 minutes and it showed the leakage as 6 l/min. The only thing is I repositioned the cushion at one point and wasn't sure if I did that when I was running the mask fit or when I was just using the mask. The mask felt different when I replaced the assembly kit so I think the one I had was faulty or had holes in it or something, but I also replaced the ClimateLine hose just to be sure it was not that.

No clue what is going on but I tested the new assembly and hose again and I got 6 L/min leakage after testing for about 5 minutes. No idea why that is happening but I think there is also a tear or hole in the other assembly kit I purchased. This is so stupid, I am going back to my Philips Nuance mask tonight because it does not leak.

Sometimes the machine records a baseline leak due to just the way the machine calculates the excess leak and it doesn't necessarily mean that there is a real excess leak. The machine might think there is but there isn't.

It's why I said do an awake test and see if the baseline excess leak is on 0.0 or a bit higher baseline.
Not every mask will give a 0.0 leak as the baseline but there is no real leak going on.

I have seen it on my own reports....the baseline is never on 0.0 some nights.
