Very frustrated with rainout, tried everything I know to do, now what???

Post by Kkinton1 » Sat May 22, 2021 8:39 pm

I have an airsense 10 autoset. I've used cpap for over three years. Never had rainout problems until recently. I changed from full face mask over to n30i nasal then to wisp nasal ( which works the best for me). But, with wisp I wake up in the morning with water in my cushion. I have the heated tubing cranked to 86 degrees. The humidification on 2. The cpap is on the floor and I have a CPAP hose holder holding the hose straight up way above my bed. My room is cold, I admit. It's about 65 degrees plus a fan running on me. I can't sleep in a warm room. Any ideas? My hose feels warm so I know its working. The only thing I can think of is there is the extra extension hose that comes with the wisp that isn't heated. Do you think it could cool down that fast ( from the time it leaves the climate control hose to the time it reaches the mask)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, depending on how cold the ambient room temp might be.

Add a short hose cozy to the short hose going from the heated hose to the mask.
You can buy them or make one out of an old sock or some fleece wrapped around the short hose.
Figure out some way to keep that air in the short hose and mask a bit warmer. Warmer air holds onto the moisture better than cooler air.
Back when I was using a nasal pillow mask I used to get a barrel cozy....I called it a coat to go around the nasal pillow itself to keep the air warmer.

I don't know if there are any cushion cozies for the N30i but you might check out padacheek.com.

Thank you for your reply. I am going to go to sleep soon so I wrapped my extension hose with ace bandage for tonight hopefully that will help. I will look for a hose cozy or something more permanent tomorrow. I never heard of a barrel cozy, it goes on the nasal cushion itself? Thanks again.

I don't see any for the N30i but you can get an idea what I mean. They actually do help plus the material is so comfy next to the skin.
You might check with Karen (owner of padacheek.com) to see if she has anything that might work for your N30i.

A nice warm sock might help the short hose. Just cut a hole in the toe and slide it over the hose.
Padacheek has hose cozies as well.

I sleep with the covers over my head when rain out is a problem, even a sheet can hold in the heat. My boyfriend can't breath when he tries it to do that, it gets really cold on his boat, it's nice someone is jealous of my having a cpap for 1 reason anyway.
