suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips
Hi all,
edited to add:
Thank you all for the suggestions. I really appreciate it. After doing research at cpap.com, I decided to look at masks that are rated highly for restless sleepers. I decided to start with the Res f20 Air Touch. Unfortunately Resmed like Phillips doesn't currently allow cpap.com to ship to Canadians so I had to find a Canadian vendor (which are more expensive). I did find a vendor who will do a 30 day mask exchange if the mask is the wrong size or doesn't work for me. Although this vendor is more money than some of the others, I felt it's worth it since I know it can take trying several masks to find the right one (it took some time to find my last mask). The upside is this vendor is in Toronto (my city) and I should have the mask quite quickly (1-7 business days), much faster than from a US source.

I thought I'd ask for suggestions for a newer full face mask to try. I've been a cpap user for 13 years now and for much of that time, I've been a user of Fisher Paykel's Flexi Fit 432, size small (started with the 431 model). However, it's an older mask & I've like to have an alternative in case it's discontinued or find another mask that I like.
Some things about me:
- I'm a combined nose/mouth breather so it needs to be a full face mask
- I' move around in my sleep quite a bit and sleep on both my side & back during the same night
- I'm female with a receeding chin, I wear a small in my current mask
As well, I'm in Canada, so Phillps Respironics masks are out. (I can't buy them from cpap.com, Phillips won't let them ship outside of the USA).
I also tried a hybrid mask in the past (from Innomed/Respcare) but didn't like it.
Suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips
Go to cpap.com, find the FFMs and sort by Top Sellers - https://www.cpap.com/plp/full-face-cpap-mask/ZT0yNjU
There, you will find photos, specifications, user ratings and many user reviews.
I like the newer, smaller footprint, lower weight styles like:
- Dreamwear FFM (Philips, surprised they are not available in CA)
- ResMed AirFit F30i
- Amara View FFM
Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips
Thank you for the replies. They are available in Canada but unfortunately I have to go a Canadian dealer for Phillips. In the past, I've had bad experiences with Canadian dealers, they would not sell directly to consumers without a consultation with a respiratory therapist and would not publicly post price online. It appears that they do sell direct now but no returns accepted and prices are quite a bit higher (even with dollar exchange & international shipping.) It's easier just to avoid Phillips completely (Amara is also Phillips).ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 11:48 amGo to cpap.com, find the FFMs and sort by Top Sellers - https://www.cpap.com/plp/full-face-cpap-mask/ZT0yNjU

I don't wear a full face mask but check out what resmed has. They have a "for her" line of masks that I find fit me better than the phillips masks.

you could still go to cpap.com to find info, as granny suggests-PurrceyS wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 12:12 pmThank you for the replies. Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips
Thank you both for the suggestion of cpap.com. I checked out their reviews before posting here. (I order my equipment from them so I'm familiar with them.) Yes, they certainly have many reviews and it can be a bit overwhelming sorting through all of them. I asked this question because I'm interested in hearing personal recommendations which might give me a starting point.

Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips
I alternate between the resmed AirTouch memory foam one) and the Resmed F30. The F30 works better for those nights I toss and turn, but the F20 tends to be more comfortable most of the time. I get very few leaks with either one. I couldn’t get the silicone version of the F20 to seal well, but others really seem to like it.
I get the best seal when I actually bury my face in the pillow when side sleeping. It only takes a small movement of my head to ensure the seal.

I vote for the ResMed F30. Have not tried the F30i.
For me, the F30 provides a better seal than the DreamWear FFM -- the DW seems more appropriate if your face is flat.

Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips
Thank you both. I was leaning towards the ResMed F20 and F30, probably the Touch for the ResMed F20 since my current mask uses foam and I've always find it more comfortable than silicon even though it has to be replaced more often.

Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips
The F20 fits over the nose and mouth, resting on the bridge of your nose, where the F30 covers the mouth, but fits under the nose. Some find one more comfortable, some prefer the other. The F30i has the hose attach at the top of the headgear rather than at your nose or mouth like the F30 - again, some prefer one, some prefer the other. I flip flop on which is more comfortable (foam or silicone) - depends on how I feel that day.

Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips
I’ve used both the ResMed F30i and F30 and they are both excellent. I sleep on my back 50% of the time and on my side the other 50% of the time and felt like the F30 with the hose in front was the better mask for this.
I tried the F20 that seems to also get great reviews and absolutely hated it. I did not like how it sits up between your eyes like that and it made me feel like I was back in the Army wearing a gas mask. The F30i/F30 are very minimalist while also covering both mouth and nose.

Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips
this is just the thing. it's very hard to find THE mask that works for you. it's prolly the hardest part of the cpap journey.
this is why you'll not see me recommend masks unless asked specifically about the mask i own.
what works for me doesn't necessarily work for thee.
