Just started cpap.. can't stand it. Any advice?

Post by Cpaptorneke » Sun May 09, 2021 8:09 am

I got Resmed Airsense 10 4 days ago. And I can't use it more than an hour because I feel like I will suffocate. I got the nasal mask. Should I change it to full mask? I don't know what to do. After using it for an hour, I feel that I must take it off or I will die. Any advice? :(((

Do you know what your pressure settings are? I'll presume your machine's an auto rather than plain cpap, but if I'm wrong let us know.

And relax, because so few get it 'right' from the first night, or even week, that they are unusual. Right now your mask may not be the problem, but we need more info. Do you have results of your sleep study?

Do you take any meds?

Please stay in this thread so we can keep all info together.

Wear it around the house without the hose attached. Get used to it.

I think you need to see your doctor about some anxiety medication.

First, it's not about anxiety. It's just difficult for me to breathe with cpap since I just started it. You need to know that you are rude as hell. I think you need to see your doctor about some medication to increase your IQ

And it's okay to be rude about someone's IQ????????

Just because you don't like the response someone gives you ....not a reason for this sort of rudeness either.

Actually you were given the standard advice normally given to people who have problems acclimating to the mask and/or machine.
It was good advice...you didn't like it and you got snotty in return...not a good way to start off things when you need help.
All it will do is alienate people and no one will give a rats ass if you ask a question or not.

No more personal attacks please.

Just because you don't like what someone says doesn't give you the right to respond in such a manner.
If you don't like it...just ignore it.

Ok! I will tell every cpap beginner to go take some anxiety medication! I don't need to be polite to someone who is rude to me.

There you go getting snotty again...not a good start. Good way to get yourself ignored by people.

The anti anxiety meds comments was more based on all your past posts....screams anxiety to me as well.

But yes....sometimes medications are needed when people seem to be having a lot of anxiety about this whole cpap and sleep apnea situation and from your past posts as well as this current thread....you fit that to a tee.

You do really need to be having a chat with your doctor about all your questions and issues because you don't seem to be able to easily get on board with cpap or your diagnosis....and you are going to need more help than a forum of cpap veterans is going to be able to offer you. All we can offer is our past experience and you don't seem to understand that fact and don't want to listen either.

Your attitude sucks....and isn't doing you any favors so having a chat with your doctor about all your questions and problems is probably the best advice for you. Now whether the doc thinks anti anxiety meds are in order...that's up to him but you really need to be seeking help from your medical team.

Have a nice day.

Meanwhile, you didn't answer my Q's, and they matter to how you feel and sleep, and can be tweaked... but we need to know what's what first to help you.

Ok, I guess this website is toxic. I will get help elsewhere. I'm leaving. Thank you for helping me so far!

Well, if you actually want help, then you need to stop lashing out at everyone that responds to you and provide some information.

http://cpaptalk.com/wiki/index.php/Oscar:organize

and define what you mean you say you feel like you're going to suffocate (you're not, but that's beside the matter). Do you feel like you're not getting enough air, or that there's too much and you can't exhale? two very different things, with different solutions that are both described as "I feel like I will suffocate" by people.

Your attitude so far is what's toxic, it will follow you wherever you go.

Change starts from within.

Well, I wasn't toxic at all until I saw the comment. Does it make you feel good when someone tells you to go take anxiety med when you are trying to adapt to use cpap machine? I was actually getting good help from this website. You guys might not remember how it was difficult for you to get to used to wearing cpap.

That's a good idea. Here are a couple things that helped me adjust fairly quickly to nasal pillows, despite a history as a mouth breather:
- A lifetime of snorkeling.
- Each night as the machine goes on, take some deep breaths and make sure they go all the way into your lungs.
- If pillows irritate the nostril area, apply a bit of Lansinoh there before putting on the mask.
Good luck!
