Help! Only feel co2 air coming out inhale

Post by Raichu02828 » Sun Apr 25, 2021 9:08 am

Im a male in my 20s with central and hypopnea and my concern is i have a lot of medical issues and don't wanna inhale a bunch of co2 due to bad mask designs.

I notice when I use my Air Fit F20 mask I ONLY notice co2 venting coming out during when I am inhaling. When I exhale I feel no air venting out. When I used to use cpap I noticed air ALWAYS venting out much better.

I use a philip respironics dreamstation auto bipap. Bi level i changed the iPap pressure to 10.0 and the epap pressure to 5.0 but may switch the ipap much higher

How can you tell if it's air or CO2?

New mask designs have much better vent diffusion, this is in response to sleep disruption for the CPAP user and partners cause by more pronounced venting.

Mask companies, particularly ResMed has a lot of experience with venting, they aren't releasing untested masks.

The F20 has a new venting system. Users were complaining about the big blast of exhaled air blowing on them and on their partners. Resmed put a cover over the vent holes on the elbow. There is still the same amount of venting but because of the cover, the air is diffused differently.

Scientists and engineers have worked on mask design and SAFETY for decades.
Trust them--they do know what they are doing.

A pressure difference (PS) of 5 cmH2O will result in a noticeable difference in sound and apparent airflow. I use a PS of 4.4 and can hear the difference in air being vented between those two pressures.

With the newer style F20 elbow, the exhausted air is diffused. When you inhale, only the air from your machine is exhausted. When you exhale, a mixture of air from the machine and the air you breath out are exhausted. This air is warmed by your breath, and is warmer than the machine air and is harder to detect because the air is about the same temperature as your hand while the air from the machine is cooler and easier to detect.

You only feel some air venting when inhaling because your inhale pressure is over twice your exhale pressure. More pressure, more venting.
