So I have Central Apnea and have been rxed a resmed air curve ASV. I’m sleeping like crap obviously and I’m almost certain the central’s are a result of a necessary medication that’s also put 100lbs on my previously 130 5’9” female frame.

Another medication in this same class gave me bradycardia and I had to do a stress test and wear that device on me for a week and a sonogram of my heart... which leads me to the issue. My insurance won’t pay until they see my hearts alright and it should be since the test they paid for previously said it was and then some graph from my doctor needs to be submitted.

I’m not sure if they have the ability to find that graph or if it was never made at my titration study so I may have to have yet another sleep study (which is super fun with butt length dreads). Is just so much back and forth and then a new issue pops up and I just want to sleep better and start riding my bike and working on this weight loss.

It’s been 3 months now waiting for people to look/submit the right data and I’m totally frustrated. I slept the best I have since being a child and has no leaks and loved my mask during my titration study and while I know being at home is different I’m genuinely excited and practice wearing the masks I was given after my titration at home to work on what I can to make this an easier transition.

I’m just sick of sleeping 10 to 12 hours a day and being too tired to leave my bed when I am awake; I’m housebound at this point and it’s driving me nuts.

Anyway, just ranting. I know there’s nothing more that can be done than what’s happening and I could get the call tomorrow to come get my machine but it’s gone on so long it feels like it might not ever happen...I’m gonna try wiling it into existence lol. I just want to start my life again with my machine!

I Second your thread title. I have been waiting since the 11th of last month for DME and doctor to get paperwork straightened out. Last excuse I heard was they were waiting on more paperwork from doctor because my ahi was below 15. It is all very tiresome.

Your insurance company may want cardiac ejection rates....have you had a test on your heart that gives those?
It's to make sure you aren't in heart failure. Long story there which I don't have time to go into in terms of ASV use and people with low cardiac ejection rates.

Pugsy, I know why they are asking for info about my heart in regards to this machine it’s just like sh*t or get off the pot already. If I need to have another test done, cool. How soon can I do it? Same with another sleep study. Give me the first opening y’all can get me in. I’m disabled so all I have is time and a strong dependence on Medicaid. I’d just buy my own machine if that’s where possible for me but it’s simply not an option. I just... well want my machine lol.

I’ll do whatever they want but they have to then approve their own requirement tests which is either trapped in a loop and not happening or they aren’t working on it at all. I’m touring the line between trying not to be impatient and taking control of my own care and is draining when you’re always drained.

Timben, I hope you get your machine and get it soon. Mine was 16 so I almost had your issue too. The only time ever anyone’s probably been happier to have a higher AHI lol

Central apnea is a whole different can of worms to deal with even if the "official" diagnosis is "mild to moderate" in terms of numbers.
There are some extra hurdles to jump over unfortunately.

I understand your frustration. Probably the insurance company wants documentation that your heart ejection rate is greater than 45...either an echocardiagram or Muggy scan will give that piece of data. If you had a hundred bucks this machine would do what you need.

Sorry, not wanting to still someone’s thread. After almost a month I called DME and they needed pre sleep study notes. I was told they need it for insurance purposes because I was below 15. I called my endocrinologist that ordered my sleep study and had pre sleep study notes faxed to DME. Still waiting on answer. They are not refusing, just dragging their feet through every guided step of the process.

My initial AHI was only 13; but I had the right comorbidities.
Comorbidities are additional health problems considered to combine with apnea to shorten life.
Officially, of course. (I suspect the list changes)
Additional tests are welcome when you need treatment for apnea.
Pain in the rear, but necessary.

Update! Just called the sleep center and they got everything and were now just waiting on the dr to write out a new rx. I should have my ASV possibly by the end of the week!

I slept so poorly last night fully waking up 6 or 7 times with crazy dreams and falling dreams (which in the sleep lab correlated with severe o2 drop). I’m just so excited to have something to TRY. There’s nothing to be done but this for CA so I’m confident it’ll help me. After last night, it can’t hurt lol

Another weekend without my machine. I’m not surprised or even frustrated just disappointed. I mean this is a needed medical device that I’m not able to use while whatever crap is going on with the sleep clinic and or DME. Ifi want jaded ID be bothered and find It’s kinda sad that these are doctors and they don’t care about their patients even getting treatment....but alas...lol the saga continues
