In hospital have odd question

Post by Cchilb68 » Sat Mar 06, 2021 2:08 pm

Dr a lung Dr came to tell us today that my 20 years of health problems are due to carbon monoxide that is not being removed from my lungs.
. I am on o2 at number 3. Q but this sd seemed like he was trying to sell a machine that works like a cpap machine, that not only keeps your air way open but removes the carbon monoxide from your lung while your sleeping . Has anyone heard of this?

Well that would be carbon dioxide, and that sounds like a bi-level device. The pressure support is what augments ventilation, and helps blow off CO2.

Doesn't sound like anyone is "selling" you anything.

To clarify, are you saying your doc prescribed oxygen at 3 liters in addition to your CPAP?

If that is the case, it isn’t unheard of. For most of us CPAP alone is enough to increase O2 levels, but for some additional O2 is necessary. The CPAP machine opens up your airway, but for some of opening the airway alone doesn’t provide adequate oxygenation, so supplemental O2 has to be added.

It sounds like the doctor is saying you retain CO2. This is common in diseases like COPD and often a BiPap is prescribed to help with this condition.
