Why do you need your doctor. Go to ebay...You can get a dozen for about $8. Shipping included. Amazon has them too.
They are not to be rinsed..they are disposable.

The hypoallergenic filters won't hold up to much washing/rinsing but the regular standard mesh like filters will hold up to a lot of gentle washings and rinsing.
I used one as the diffuser on my Bleep mask and would wash it about once a month and it held up nearly a year.

But even the hypoallergenic filter can stand 1 or 2 gentle washings...I tested one just to see what would happen. It didn't fall apart like I thought it would.

Washing air filters that aren't meant to be washed, can change the filter specs, that can cause the filter to allow more dirt thru or even worse restrict the air flow, causing machine damage.

The foam filter can be washed as long as the foam doesn't go bad, after a while they will flake off and flakes will be sucked in by the fan. Jim

as others have said, you could buy more. but me, being a cheap so n so, i wash mine out as well. no problems with it so far and i've been at this 5 1/2 years.

Washing any fiber air filter is inadvisable, because many have an electrostatic component,
which WASHES OUT.

I kinda doubt your doctor "gives" you anything.... they likely *sell* it to you at some grossly inflated price.

That said, Resmed says to replace the filter ever six months (unless you've got a dusty environment).
