Re: Are oral appliances worth the thousands of dollars?
I spent $4k on the MAD device because I was hoping I could avoid the PAP machine.
I didn't feel as though it was effective at all when I slept on my back. On the mornings after, I definitely felt it in my teeth.
It does seem to work a little while on my side. I slightly felt like my teeth were still under pressure/shifting.
I am going to guess spending that kind of money vs. the $100 version; just try the cheaper versions and see if it makes a difference before going all out.
Really ticked finding out after the investment that the MAD will only last 2-3 years and then it's another full $4k investment.
I was a willing sucker, that's for sure.
I've then had surgeries; sinuplasty, UPP.
Retried the MAD and still having the exact same experiences.
I haven't retried my BiPAP machine since the surgeries. I will likely try next week tho.
Hopefully, it'll take this time.

I did the UPPP, turbinate reduction, and deviated septum correction around 25 years ago. It helped for around 20 years, but ended up on bi-level machine five and a half years ago.

Re: Are oral appliances worth the thousands of dollars?
My wife started with a cpap and after about five years spent $3000 for an oral appliance. After about a year she went back to a machine. She had all sorts of jaw problems while using the appliance. When tests showed I had apnea it thought an appliance would be a lot better than a machine (wife was using the appliance at that time). My doc said frankly an appliance might not work. So I got a machine.

Thanks for that feedback. It's always helpful to get support. I will definitely take advantage of it. I always hoped that messages i offered of support on these boards could help but never really knew how effective they could be.
Then I read yours and it hit me, hit me well. I really appreciated it. Now I know people appreciate it more than they let on. Sometimes there's just no time to share.
Thanks for that.

it's good to know my words have meaning!
