Dry Eyes and Mask Options

Post by michgol » Thu Jan 28, 2021 11:20 am

First I wanted to share that thanks to help on other threads I now have my AHI down (<3 and trending down) and I am starting to sleep better. I also had a great conversation on data with the doctor who made some adjustments to settings and they appear to be helping.

I suffer from dry eyes at night. This pre-dates CPAP. I have a condition that causes me to sleep with my eyes not all the way closed. The air around my face from the mask is making things worse. My leaks from the mask are near 0 in OSCAR. There is an occasional leak as I roll over, but they reseal. When I feel around the mask the air appears to be coming from the exhaust port and not around the silicone seal.

I am using a resmed F30. I already wear dry eye masks to try to keep some air out of my eyes.

I am wondering if trying something like an F30i or a dream wear mask with the hose attachment at the top would help, or if I should accept that I will always have more air around my face and try to come up with more extreme ways to seal off my eyes.

Try a mask that doesn't vent in such a way that it can bounce back to your face.
What do you have to lose?

I have dry eyes and use Refresh PM ointment every night. Helps a ton and my eyes don't bother me during the day, I also occasionally use Systane Balance eye drops. My mask does not leak, I think just using the CPAP with air blowing through my nose dries out my eyes.

I use a silicone eye mask, Eye Seals 4.0. It's been a life saver! I also use the Bleep mask, which doesn't leak since it is taped onto my nose. And it exhausts down, away from my eyes, through a diffuser.
