Philips Respironics Dreamwear - just one nose pillow now

Post by cpap2 » Sat Jan 16, 2021 9:55 am

Just got my new supplies. The Philips Respironics Dreamwear just had the size nose pillow that I wear.

There have always been packages where one size of whatever is in the package but a lot of time DMEs simply didn't stock that package.
They would instead supply the package that had multiple sizes which are often called "Fit Pack" packaging.
The price insurance will reimburse is the same but the single size packages actually probably costs a little bit less...so guess what? The DME makes a little more money.
It's always about the money. Never about what you need.

The various product packaging available to DMEs is quite large and often they simply don't have enough room to keep an inventory supplied with single size whatevers....so they keep an inventory of fit pack packaging.
Next time you order a new mask package if they don't have your size in stock you will likely get a package with multiple sizes in it.
I always liked the multiple sizes...I could either try a different size or trade my unwanted size with someone else and essentially prolong the mask life without incurring extra expense other than postage costs to send someone my unwanted sizes.

DMEs have been known to snatch the odd sizes out of fit packs and repack them for sale.
With the pandemic, this is happening less--(should be not at all.)

Tis true but when this happens it should be clearly obvious the packaging has been tampered with. People should never ever accept a mask package that has clearly been tampered with unless it was opened in front of them and they are okay with the reason it was opened.

It's actually against the law to sell (at least in the state I live in) any mask package that has been opened for any reason other than in the presence of the buyer. They aren't supposed to sell demo masks...now they can give them away but they can't sell them. It's been this way even before covid. I got this information straight from my DMEs mouth when I went to get a mask and they didn't have a new package in stock with the size I needed but they did have an open package Demo in my size. It had never been used but still open package and they just gave it to me and didn't bill my insurance.

But in Nebraska, anything goes--even puppy mills are still legal.
The rare exceptions: non-prescription neck braces and weed.
Thanks to the wackos we elect, it's not a good place to live, move to, or visit.

This must have or could have been the case, since the mask size differed from the nose pillow.

My understanding is that if they sell a "fit pack" with three sizes of pillows, they can part out the fit pack and bill for the headgear, the tubing, and one nasal pillow all individually which is more than charging for 1 complete mask (even if the package is never opened). In my state it is NOT illegal to open the fit pack, so DME's typically remove all but the size pillow you need and go ahead and resell the remaining nasal pillows at full retail price.
