Hi traillrunn3r,

I have been also curious about CSR and have found this thread, and others similar, of interest. I looked up in the OSCAR glossary something that may be applicable to your situation, under Cheyne–Stokes respiration (CSR) - it defines what it is and then offers the following caveat: "Note, Resmed machines flag periodic breathing as CSR and in most cases it not CSR. Please see Periodic Breathing". I noticed your machine is a Resmed.

It's pretty classic CSR IMHO. My computer is messed up right now and I can't seem to get to my ResMed manual link where it shows real CSR...but while I know some stuff gets flagged as CSR and it isn't.....I am pretty sure the OP's here does.

Hi Pugsy,

The wave pattern resembles it but the infrequency would seem baffling...not that I am a medical professional in the least. I'm just a guy on the internet researching and learning stuff.

As an aside, I have been here for a few years "lurking" and I just want to take this opportunity to thank you (and others) for much of your advice and insight that helped me when I began (and continue) my therapy journey. So often we never quite know the influence we have on one another's lives. Again, thank you!

Dave

He's been peeking through the floor cracks for years, and now CSR lured him up onto the cage floor.

It is baffling for sure but I have chatted with sleep techs about this and they say that sometimes it just happens and no one knows why.
I was told unless the CSR pattern is obviously consistent and prolonged they sort of shrug their shoulders and move on....once the doctor has also shrugged his shoulders and moved on.

That is what we have done. My wife continues to have nights where she has CSR, and then will go three or four nights without it. I mentioned it to the nurse practitioner at the sleep clinic, but she didn't seem too worried about it since it was not all of the time, and when it happens it only shows up for short periods (one hour or less) during the night.

freaking out sorta. looks like i get this 2 - 3 times a month. so its not consistent.
This is the most important part of whatyou said.

Time to freak out is when it happens for large parts of every (or most) night!

Once in a while, odd things crop up... don't worry about them till they're happening routinely.

And the machine is flagging it correctly

It's still nothing to worry about when it only happens a couple times a month.
