Esophagus Stomach Pain?

Post by sean4123 » Thu Jan 14, 2021 5:45 pm

Guys, is it possible for a CPAP to cause stomach or esophagus damage? I wake up daily now with pain and ever since CPAP therapy i've gotten worse GERD. Could the humidifier be running too hot? The it gets the water pretty warm on my machine, and I usually wake up after it happens. Let me know if you've heard of this.

I have a different machine that is newer, but I cannot seem to fall asleep with it. The air doesn't flow like the one i'm used to. Maybe i'm just insane. :D

It is most likely what's called aerophagia and is often a result of a too-high min. setting of your pressure (presuming you're on auto). It shouldn't cause esophagus damage, may be related to a lax LES and is common in people who haven't had their Cpap maximally adjusted for them. If you download Oscar and post results in this thread, experts will see what's what and advise. You can also put aerophagia in the forum search bar - lots of info there.

You have the capability to turn the humidity down if it's too warm. What machine do you have? What machine did you have prevuously?

Resmed most common one. I know I can adjust it but it doesn't seem to warm unless its on full setting. I have a newer machine like I said, but I cant seem to fall asleep with it. I'm a mess I know. Could me overthinking, but I definitely have real health issues.

I also have central sleep apnea, but its iMPOSSIBLE for me to fall asleep with that machine. I don't know what im gonna do.

That's not a good answer. What model machine do you have now, and what did you have before?

What exactly is your diagnosis? If you truly have complex apnea (obstructive and central), ResMed's "most common" machine may not be suitable.

Humidity would not cause this, but aerophagia would. Do a search up in the masthead, you will find a lot of suggestions.

Bumping this thread. I'll get the machine info later today.

My GERD issues have gotten worse to where I need daily meds. I need help.

REsMED
IPX1

Rx Only
S9|
DC 24V
1.25A

I was first diagnosed with obstructive then when put on the machine they flipped it to obstructive and central, which makes me question their diagnosis.

I believe i'm suffering from inflammation and poor breathing pattern which is helped and also hurt by the cpap.

Don't mean to be silly, but what do you have against aerophagia as a diagnosis?
