Can CPAP machine increase rate of breathing and blood pressure ?
Re: Can CPAP machine increase rate of breathing and blood pressure ?
BTW...the modem or cell phone data transmission thingy in the ResMed machines doesn't actually transmit anything until you turn off the machine the next morning and no longer are using it...it doesn't do any transmission while you are using the machine during the night.
But if it still bugs you that it is there...there is a setting for airplane mode and it simply won't ever transmit.
It's easy to do.
If you want to read up on that model in more detail.

This is why some people choose to purchase supplemental insurance every year to offset additional costs that the government medical doesn't pay.
Re: Can CPAP machine increase rate of breathing and blood pressure ?
You may know this already, but I just want to put it out there:This is why some people choose to purchase supplemental insurance every year to offset additional costs that the government medical doesn't pay.
If you are in the US, be aware that if Medicare doesn't pay, NEITHER WILL YOUR SUPPLEMENTAL PLAN. People rarely understand this until they run into this issue. Part B Medicare pays for outpatient tests and procedures, doctors visits, lab and X-ray. But there's a deductible and 20% co-payments. IF Medicare will cover a procedure, a supplemental will pay part or all of your deductible and co-pay. But if Medicare denies payment, the supplemental will NOT pick up any of the cost either. Likewise your supplemental drug plan may pick up some of the portion of medications after Medicare pays it's part, but if Medicare doesn't cover a prescription, neither will your supplemental.
And the supplemental does not continue to pay when Medicare stops. I find people often think that a supplemental insurance plan will pay the cost of nursing home care when Medicare runs out. They do NOT.
Just wanted to make sure this is understood, otherwise you could get a nasty surprise bill some day.

Medicare completely avoids covering many essential services for devastating conditions.
It will not cover lymphedema, or preventive diabetic foot care.
Dirty stinkers.

dorisw, If you find out from the doctor about the arrhythmia at night, I hope you will share with us.
Re: Can CPAP machine increase rate of breathing and blood pressure ?
To update you. after having stopped using the old resmed respironics machine my blood pressure has improved somewhat. However I did my 24 h monitoring, and my Dr commented that my nightly blood pressure in relation to my daytime BP is a bit higher than one would expect. Since then I bought a new mask system, the Airfit P30i, it is an even better fit than my previous Respironics Optilife, I seem to wake up less often.
Although the Resmed S8 Elite II is working O.K. for me now, I am still wondering if I could do better. So I am still thinking about the Airsense Autoset S10 for Her. I am reading confusing information, some users say the machine sets itself automatically, others say they paid a therapist to do it.
Could someone please clarify if this machine still has to be set by a sleep therapist for my specific needs ?
It seems that here in Ontario I can get a Government subsidy only if I buy from a sleep therapist who will then also adjust the machine, but wants to see a new prescription from a Dr. first who will require a sleep study. These therapists charge considerably more for the CPAP machine than if I were to buy it through amazon ( in some cases without prescription...), but then I am on my own.

I'm in Ontario and took advantage of the OHIP Assistive Device Program (ADP) which pays for 75% of the cost.
The program requires a prescription and sleep study, but you should not be paying any out of pocket expense beyond what's not covered by ADP.
https://www.ontario.ca/page/assistive-devices-program
I got a referral to the Sleep-Clinic from my GP, did a sleep study, was referred to my DME (Vital Air).
ADP paid for 75% of cost, and my private insurance paid for 85% of the remaining 25%. The DME did up-sell me on extra supplies I didn't need, but there was no outrageous setup fees. Fitting and initial setup was done by the DME and Sleep Clinic with no extra billing.
And yes, you should be getting the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her, it's classified as a CPAP device, even though it's an APAP.
Here is a list of the eligible devices.

Re: Can CPAP machine increase rate of breathing and blood pressure ?
Thanks for the help. I got my new Airsense Autoset S10 for Her. The Dr. was willing to give a prescription without another formal sleep study, just wants a report from the machine.
