SleepMaster macOS Java Update Problem
SleepMaster macOS Java Update Problem
So yesterday I updated to version Java 8 Update 271 on macOS 10.15.7. SleepMaster seemed ok. Now today when attempting to launch I get this:
But I actually am running it from the Documents folder:
Any ideas?

This is either one of the funniest things ever stated on these forums, or one of the worst pieces of advice ever stated on these forums.

Re: SleepMaster macOS Java Update Problem
- Java is not developed, distributed or maintained by Apple
- SleepMaster is not developed, distributed or maintained by Apple
- Apple does not support non-Apple products, unless you have an expensive service contract, and even then it's unlikely they could solve such a problem with such niche software
- You haven't demonstrated any experience with SD Card transfers to OSCAR
- You haven't demonstrated any experience with WiFi
- You haven't demonstrated any experience with SleepMaster
- You haven't demonstrated any experience with Java
- You haven't demonstrated any experience with Macs
- You haven't demonstrated any experience with Computers
- You have a habit of responding to things that you have zero experience with or knowledge about
- The solution to this problem is likely not from Apple, instead being:
- Rolling back Java version
- A future Java update
- A future SleepMaster update
- A potential OS or security configuration change, but such information would likely be known to Java developers.

Re: SleepMaster macOS Java Update Problem
I forgot about the nonsupport of 3rd party stuff, but while I know nothing about SM, I've used Macs x 30+ yrs (+ Wins x 10 prior to that), so if I see someone who just might benefit from Apple help in any respect, I suggest they call... it's not a big deal and if they think it's inappropriate they will say so. And next time I feel the need to demonstrate my knowledge of anything with you I'll be sure to let you know directly.

Re: SleepMaster macOS Java Update Problem
So you've used Macs since 1990, and Windows since 1980.
Pretty difficult feat given Windows 1.0 was released in 1985. And FWIW, Windows 1.x and 2.x was really nothing more than a novelty, graphical shell that nobody really bought (or ran) as virtually all copies were trade show give-aways.
The next time to demonstrate your knowledge????
I'm still waiting for the first time.

Who appointed you the nasty master of the forum today?
PS - I learned Macs in the research dept(s) of Sick Kids in '85, but had to keep using PCs for other work, if it's any of your business.

Re: SleepMaster macOS Java Update Problem
Somebody has to pick up the slack since palerider hasn't been posting as much lately.
When you said you have been using Macs for 30+ years and Windows for 40 years, what you really meant to say was, you've been using Macs for 35 years and PCs for 45 years??????
It isn't any of my business. Which is why I haven't asked you for any of the details you keep providing.
Why do you keep volunteering information about yourself, then implying it's not other peoples business to know what they're not asking for?

Re: SleepMaster macOS Java Update Problem
Grounded, unless you're using java for programming language purposes, there's absolutely no reason to have it on your computer. My suggestion would be to delete Java from your Mac, restart the Mac, and then try to see if SleepMaster works.

Actually, it is possible to have used windows before Apple had it; as it originated with Commodore-
-and others came by it later--and not exclusively through independent development.

Re: SleepMaster macOS Java Update Problem
Absolutely not.
To run programs written in Java, which Sleep Master is, one needs Java (or more specifically; the Java Runtime Environment) to be installed.
Following your advice would definitely break SleepMaster, but also any other Java programs which he runs locally or from the web.

At the risk of taking this topic further off-topic, no, no no.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 3:36 pmActually, it is possible to have used windows before Apple had it; as it originated with Commodore-

First of all, if you are talking about Windows, the OS, then absolutely not.
If you are talking about windows in the generic sense, a GUI driven by a mouse, then you could argue that both Apple, and Microsoft were preceded (some say stole, others say licensed) by Xerox Parc.
The only two Commodore GUIs were GEM (by Digital Research) and AmigaOS.

Re: SleepMaster macOS Java Update Problem
OK, Amiga OS.
Amazing machines--sound and video, multitasking.
We attended a demo by another company featuring their "new" internet access tool.
Peeking under the table, there were Amiga computers running the show.
We were good sports and did not squeal there--but later, at the Amiga club . . .
