How can I tell when my humidifer-tank has reached EOL

Post by lasseponken » Sat Oct 10, 2020 6:56 pm

Hello Everyone,

Have had my ResMed Airsense 10 for 18 months, Cleaned tank reguarly, not in the dishwasher, only with lemonjuice, how can I tell when it has to be replaced?

Regards,

/L

When it leaks. (if ever)

I have used 3 different machines over my 12 years on CPAP and have never replaced a humidifier tub. (Also..I used distilled water and rarely thoroughly cleaned them)

My thoughts also. If/When it leaks it will need to be replaced.
We all know that I had a run of bad clumsy luck a few years back. Dropped 2 water chambers within 6 months and they leaked and I tried to repair but couldn't.
Over 11 years on cpap....had to replace 3 water chambers. Usually get a new model machine before original water chamber gives up the ghost.

I do recommend having a spare water chamber on hand though. Murphy's Law usually means you break it or it fails on a Friday night. probably on a holiday long weekend at that. Side note...Friday night ordering off Amazon if you are a Prime member you get it on a Sunday.

Otherwise there is no need to replace the water chambers just from age.

Now there have been reports of the AirSense/AirCurve water chambers leaking with no history of trauma....so apparently it can happen but it isn't all that common. Mine failed because of my own clumsiness twice but once I woke up to a mess on the night table and I had been handling that water chamber with kid gloves and no trauma because of my past clumsy history. So far probably almost 2 years on this most recent water chamber and it's doing just fine.

So....everyone...have a spare handy just in case. They can just up an fail with no known trauma and they make quite a mess when they do. Not common though and the best prevention....have a spare on hand and you most likely won't ever need it.

Been using my original HH tank since I started therapy.......15 1/2 years and counting.
Rarely ever "clean" it........think "years" between cleanings. Almost always use distilled water and no heat.
Still like new.

I have replaced a tank after repeated cases of pink slime.
I realized it's next to impossible to get it perfectly clean, due to devious design.
Once I changed tanks, and quit using store bought water--no more pink yuck.

'pink slime' is from a common airborne bacteria.

I have used CPAP for many years, and as yet have never had a water tank failure. I realize that occasionally a tank does develop leaks around the heater plate boundary, BUT it's never happened to me (yet). I do think that it is prudent to keep a spare on hand since breakage, and/or leaks can occur.

Backups are a great idea.
I have about 3 or 4--used, but still usable--too good to toss.
Maybe one per year on the prior A10--just supporting my good DME--they are a dying breed.

We had one of ours reach its end of life last night. Went to fill it with water and the hinge tab broke off of the lid. Dug one of the spares out and used it. I ordered a replacement today so we will still have plenty of spares on hand.
