F&P Evora mask too loud
F&P Evora mask too loud
Hi All
I have a Resmed Airsense 10 and I'm using the new F&P Evora mask. I love it, but my wife says it's too loud once I get into a deep sleep; she resorts to sleeping in another room many nights.
The Resmed app says I have a good fit/seal every night.
I've tried the different sizes of pillows; same results; too loud for her.
Is it safe to close off (with tape) some of the "exhaust" holes on the mask (not the machine)?
Willing to try almost anything so we can share a bed again!

Re: F&P Evora mask too loud
The holes are to vent CO2, and you don't want to rebreathe that! They're there for a reason.
If it's loud, either talk to the dealer about it, or get a different mask.

Hi Julie; thanks will do that
Re: F&P Evora mask too loud
I've never used that mask so the following is worth exactly what you paid for it. One could possibly create a diffuser that would reduce the noise by covering the holes with a cpap machine air filter. You just need to find a way to ayah it.
I know it's been said but don't do anything that blocks the exhaust holes. I suggested the filter because I know it would be agree to cover the holes with it.
Air must be able to escape near the face or the rebreathed CO2 will make you ill. It's dangerous, so don't underplay the risk.

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
Re: F&P Evora mask too loud
I use the Evora mask and love it. You have to make sure the exhaust area doesn’t come in contact with your pillow or your covers. Once you solve that you will find it to be a quiet mask.
Re: F&P Evora mask too loud
The Evora mask was a no-go for me...for exactly that reason, too much noise. Not the vent noise, though, that was okay. I'm a side sleeper, and sleeping on my side I could hear leaking. Leaking in itself isn't a killer, depends on the level *smile*. However, the leaking was noisy enough to keep me awake, which obviously isn't where I want to be. Tried repositioning, different size nose cushions, tightening and so on, but the only thing that helped was tightening. I had to have it too tight for comfort to stop the leaking when I was sleeping on my side. Apparently, everyone's nose (and surrounding terrain) is different *smile*.
So back to the heavy Dreamwear nasal mask. Too bad, after the good things that I heard, thought the Evora might be Mr. Goodmask *smile*. With the Dreamwear, always end up with leakage number 5cm or less. Usually 0.

Re: F&P Evora mask too loud
Now I haven't even seen this new mask but with the venting system I see shown it does surprise me that people are complaining of vent noise with this mask. F & P has been pretty good with their most recent masks being fairly quiet with diffused venting technology. I find it surprising that they stepped backwards in that area.
If someone has the Evora and they wish to donate it for experimental purposes....please contact me and let me check it out and then I can pass it along to someone who needs such a mask. My donations box is pretty bare now.
What with cpap.com offering free return insurance on all masks now.... people are returning unwanted experiments for refunds instead of donating. Price of progress I guess.
The last F & P mask I experimented with was the Brevida. With the optional diffuser thing...it's pretty much silent.
Now the ResMed P30i....I thought Darth Vadar was in bed with me. Totally annoying so bad I didn't even try to sleep with it.
Between the Bleep with its diffuser or the P10....I am totally spoiled by the silence.

Re: F&P Evora mask too loud
I use the Simplus and Vitera and one of my favorite things about them is how silent they are. They do make a lot of noise if you hit something with the exhaust (I had to hack my Pad-a-Cheek Simplus liner to avoid blocking the vent holds on the Vitera - if it slips, it’s very noisy where the exhaust hits the tab). I haven’t tried the Evora, but I think F&P is excellent at making quiet masks.
