Bi-level: Aircurve 10 Vauto vs Dreamstation Auto Bipap
Bi-level: Aircurve 10 Vauto vs Dreamstation Auto Bipap
I searched but could not find any real information on the differences between these two machines.
I have an Aircurve 10 Vauto, but I am having trouble running it on DC12V (manditory that I have this, discussion here about thisviewtopic.php?f=1&t=180401&p=1366574#p1366574).
A Respironics Dreamstation has much less problems running on DC12V (no transformer needed, unlike the Aircurve).
When I look at reviews, they both rate high, some rate one better than the other but they are very close in all reviews.
Feature list looks the same.
What is the real difference between these two machines?
Thanks for any info.

The real difference is in the company's proprietary algorithms. I believe quality is about the same across the Phillips and Resmed lines. But most on this forum prefer the Resmed algorithms as being both more comfortable and better at treating their condition.
Both companies want you to buy a dc adapter. Respironics will make noise that not using theirs can break the machine. Not sure if they threaten not to cover warranty, nor do I know how they can know.
FWIW, the resmed adapter is a dc to dc converter. Very light weight and efficient. I would not let that change your decision one way or the other.

Thanks,
I was hoping for some answers like...
I used model X and I had these problems, I switched to the other model and it worked fine.

The Aircurve VAuto provides better sleep and better treatment than the Dreamstation auto bipap.

Pale rider, that gives me no real information.
I am looking for specifics.

Given that the companies don't publish their algorithm's, how do you think that's going to happen? The best you'll get is a combination of "my AHI was this, then it was that" and even more subjective "this is how I felt".
In the APAP line, I used to have a Respironics series 60. It did well enough. But this time around I tried the airsense 10 auto, just because so many people liked it. Lo and behold:
- My AHI improved with LOWER pressure requirements
- And it was a lot more comfortable to me.
I'm sorry, I can't put much more in to it, and that's not a bilevel machine anyway.

You asked for the differences, aside from the fact that Resmed holds more water, is quieter, and has better build quality, the *most important difference* is that the Resmed algorithm simply works better
If that doesn't float your boat, ... oh well.

Re: Bi-level: Aircurve 10 Vauto vs Dreamstation Auto Bipap
Time for a new machine (auto, bi-level) and had been using the S9. They wanted me to try the DS. I was game. There were a few things I liked off the bat -- the humidifier tank was easier to clean, the hose routing seemed cleaner, and I could download some very very limited data via bluetooth. OTOH, I felt like I was fighting the machine. My sleep was much worse than it was the S9. Took the DS back after a week and for the Aircurve Vauto. Back to happiness.
If you want the DS, buy the DS. You seem to want someone here to tell they did what you want to do and it was awesome; I am not that person.

That is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. It would be helpful to know if you had the same settings on both machines or tried to adjust the settings on the dreamweaver to see if you could make it work better....TropicalDiver wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 10:44 pmOTOH, I felt like I was fighting the machine. And what you mean by fighting (e.g. could not breath out, or could not take a breath when I wanted to,
or just saying you struggled to breath easily, or that you struggled to get the settings the way you wanted or .....).
You may not remember at this point, but if you do, it would be helpful.
Other things I would be interested in if there was something like:
I could set X with increments of .2 on Machine A vs the other machine where I could only adjust in increments of .5.
Or Machine X would ramp up to the top IPAP often with no visible reason that I could see on Oscar, and the pressure would blow out my mouth and often wake me up. When I moved to machine Y this didn't happen.
Thanks, Norma
Re: Bi-level: Aircurve 10 Vauto vs Dreamstation Auto Bipap
Well, you seem to already know about that, with Resmed being A and 'the other machine' being Respironics.
If there's "no visible reason" on Oscar, then you're not looking close enough, because there is always a reason.

Yes, the S9, Dreamstation, and Aircurve were set to similar modes with similar settings (and same mask). i turned off smart ramp -- that was awful (it felt like it wanted to me breath out when I would breath in and vice versa). That helped. But it is still felt off -- even after tweaking. Sometimes it felt like the pressure would drop before I was full done with my inhale.
