respironics dreamwear headgear with "arms"

Post by LTen » Fri Sep 11, 2020 10:18 am

I love my Dreamwear mask, but have always had trouble keeping the back strap in place. So I thought the "arms" version would be great for me. But it's the same exact issue and I just don't understand how it is helping others. I don't have "the big head", matter of fact, the back of my head is practically flat. But I'd assume others who had issues with the original headgear had the same problem. I've been putting a piece of sticky-back velcro on my back strap for years. The version with arms just slides up my head same as the original. I also can barely pull it tight enough without overlapping the velcro straps at the back. I keep thinking something is weird here - how else could it be used though?? Anyone else?? I'm female with short hair so that doesn't help either.

I use the ResMed P30i (vey similar design to the DreamWear) and had the same problem with the back strap riding up.

The DreamWear Headgear with Arms fits the ResMed P30i, and it helped for me.

For what it's worth:
The original P30i straps don't always ride up on me. They ride up the longer my hair is. In the summer months, I shave my head completely, right to the wood. While bald (or very close), the original straps don't move.

Since attaching the Respironics Headgear with Arms the straps, it hasn't moved since. And I have grown out my hair a bit, but it's never long.

I think slightly different shapes, we all have in the back of our heads can account for the straps (original or with arms) movement differences.

Two suggestions:
  • I've heard (but haven't tried), wrapping Vet Wrap around the straps can help prevent the straps from sliding.
  • Shave your head, right to the wood. Women look great bald! :)

Haha - well, THOSE women look good bald! I would have thought the opposite on how the mask slips or not. I bet the tape does similar to my Velcro, but I might try that idea. Thanks!

Zonker,
Are you using small size headgear? The arms have worked really well for, and they are paired with small size headgear. I sleep on my stomach with my head turned so there is plenty of opportunity for slippage. I am never on my back, and have had no problems.

Having the same problem. It seemed to help at first, but not really. Next I'm trying thumbtacks.

Yes, I am using the small headgear. I feel almost like I need a kids size. I’m not sure if I should wrap the headgear in tape or my head!

I have the DreamWear nasal cushion/pillow mask a trial and even the small frame was a bit too large and it would slide up and around my head. What I did to help reduce the movement was add the side fleece wraps to the wrap and I rigged up a bit of fleece and wrapped it around the other parts of the frame (like the top) and a bit on the back strap. This was before the headgear with arms was ever released and I didn't care for the DreamWear enough to spend the money to try the new headgear...and besides I want less headgear and not more but you might add a bit of fleece around the frame and on top and see if that helps or not. It will snug things up just a bit and not compress the frame and it's comfy.

Thanks - I did something similar last night. I wrapped stretchy tape around the back of the headgear, several times around. That helped a bit, but the fact remains that if you don’t have much of a head in the back, the new gear with “arms” isn’t gonna help much. My sister has sewn some cushy filler into the inside of one pair of the cheeck wrap things. I usually just use those in winter, but they might help. Thanks for all the ideas!

I just bought the new DreamWear headgear. It's a little piece of nothing and costs $38.00. I'll learn if it was a waste of money tonight.
