Mask to use with a sore face?
Mask to use with a sore face?
Hi, I have searched but haven't found any post with a similar question. I am having a treatment for facial skin cancers that will include my upper lip area. My current mask is a Dreamwear Full, face and it has a strip right across the area I expect to be very sore. I also have a Mirage Quattro but it has a forehead piece & that may also be sore. I can't sleep without my bipap so I am trying to figure out what if any nasal pillows or other mask I can use . I appreciate any suggestions. I hate to think I would have to take pain pills just to sleep. Thanks in advance!

but while we wait, you might want to look at various masks here-
https://www.cpap.com/
then click on masks. you might see something there that would suit. they also have user reviews, in case that's helpful.
good luck!

Re: Mask to use with a sore face?
Take a look at the mask I use. Link in my equipment profile. Would the adhesive need to be touching any treated areas?

Pugsy, That mask looks like it might work. Are the adhesive strips hard to remove?
Re: Mask to use with a sore face?
Or could you put thin (1/8-1/4") foam over 'the' areas for ? a few days if they were relatively small ones?
With "? Polysporin in between? You'd have to ask your MD I guess about that.

Re: Mask to use with a sore face?
Not really hard to remove. Sometimes a little tighter than others depending on just how aggressive I am with the skin prep prior to applying them. Plus you can trim them down a bit so affected areas are minimal. It's about like pulling tape off the skin. More than a bandaid probably but comparable to regular tape. If they seem a bit snug...a little soap and water will loosen them easily. I haven't ever had to resort to that though. They will loosen fairly easily with just a little moisture. Here lately I have been having some watery eye issues and just the little bit of unwanted tearing up of the eyes that I have had has caused some premature loosening of the adhesive.
The tears roll down and hit the ports and they come loose.
Now I did use a skin prep once designed for people who use colostomy bags (we don't want those coming loose) and man, that made them stick like cement. So ever since then I just use alcohol as my skin prep after washing my face.. Now others who have a more oily skin...they have to use a more aggressive skin prep. My skin tends to be rather dry for the most part. So a lot will depend on just how oily your skin is.

Re: Mask to use with a sore face?
Thanks I am going to order it now. My skin treatment is Monday and I managed to procrastinate long enough to make it an emergency. Ha. Happily, CPAP.com has a quick to ship option so it can be here by bedtime that day. I've come a long way from not being able to tolerate my mask to not being able to sleep without it. Thanks again for your help.
