Nobody can deny reality.
Then you should take your own "advice" and stop denying reality.

Personally, I think you're just a troll that's been banned before, most people don't show the quoting style you have right out of the gate.
note also that thread title has changed, though not properly.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I made the first change in subject title to include UK info so the UK members would maybe spot it and help out.
I was trying to be nice and help out.....
Then someone removed my edit...hmmm...we know who did that because there are only 2 people who can do that....me and the OP
So then I changed it back like I wanted it to be.
How many newbies know how to use the quote function so expertly and change subject/topic lines???

Just saying.....

Someone may be yanking your chain here but just in case I am wrong...I won't deny help to anyone until I have proof as to someone's negative intent.
If he is the troll....eventually the true colors always come out. People can't hide their basic personality forever.

With regard to authenticity, it would help me form an opinion if the OP were to add some details about location – for example, what town and area they are posting from, and the name of the hospital they attend for treatment.

That and Phil and Grant's surname. :)

I appreciate your intentions are good, and if all you had done was put UK in the title, that would probably be fine, but I don't like the way you've editorialized my topic and I don't like that you feel the need to keep fighting me over it. Leave it be.

Moreover, the prevailing notion that anyone with rudimentary phpBB competency is synonymous with trolling is as obnoxious as it is ludicrous.

Well....I get to decide...I am the moderator and if you change it back again I will lock it and no one can post in it and you will have proved my suspicions about you.

Have a nice day.

So if you're going to lose the weight, WHY HAVEN'T YOU DONE SO ALREADY????

If you think it's that easy, then go for it. We'll wait. . .

You have to lose the weight and keep it off...forever. How has that worked out for you so far???

The reality is that weight is not the reason for your sleep apnea, sleep apnea is the reason for your weight (one of the reasons, at least). Sleep apnea messes with your hormones dramatically. You spend the entire night bathed in stress hormones. Ever hear that cortisol causes weight gain? That's one of the primary hormones your body secretes when it's trying to get you to breathe. In turn, insulin and a hormone called ghrelin (the hunger hormone) get deranged too. They have to do with your body's metabolism. They make you FAT. Have trouble sleeping because of your apnea? Read the articles about how lack of sleep causes weight gain.

Any diet might help you lose weight in the short term, but if you don't address the underlying issues of sleep apnea and metabolic disorders, you'll gain back MORE. In most cases, most people (stats are something like 99%) cannot maintain weight loss for even 1 year. So good luck with your strategy.

With CPAP and the right dietary approach to address metabolic issues (hint, it wasn't the calories in/calories out approach), I lost 75 lbs and kept it off for 7 years. And I STILL need CPAP.

Whine if you want. But if you want to DO something we are here to help.

I presume you're being obtuse because you've had a lack of success dieting, for which I'm sorry to hear. In 2018 I lost 10Kg (and kept it off). I believe I can do it again.

Not sure why you think they're mutually exclusive. I need CPAP in the interim, that's why they gave me the machine. The plan is to diet and use CPAP until I'm a healthy weight and my apnea is fixed. So for now, I'll be doing both.

I have to say, though, it's pretty toxic that you're one of several people bullying me because I'm not a fan of CPAP and/or because I want to lose weight. For me CPAP is a means to an end. I respect that for you it is a lifestyle and I do not judge you different for that, I just ask you do the same for me by respecting our differences.

I just got given a Philips DreamStation because I'm so fat (91Kg, 5'9") I need assisted breathing apparatus to sleep. With a name like DreamStation you might expect it would be pleasant, but this is a Chinese torture device. You stick rubber over your nose which restricts breathing whilst shotgunning air into your lungs non-stop. I mean it does literally the opposite of what it's supposed to. It's purportedly to help you sleep properly, but how is anyone going to sleep with an elevated, forced breathing cycle and racing heartbeat to match? There's no WAY! And don't get me started on the noise. You think you can just SWALLOW? SHOTGUN OF AIR as punishment for not keeping your breathing in sync with the machine. Open your mouth? Get AIRBOARDED straight into your chest cavity. LITERALLY TORTURE. I've never fallen asleep with it, but seriously, is getting aitblasted down your gullet even safe? If I ever did fall asleep I cannot be sure I will never open my mouth at some point.

I'm too young for this. I shouldn't be suffering like this at 35. I need to lose weight because this machine is not an option. Does anyone know how long, after reaching a healthy weight, until your body adapts, sleep apnea goes away and you're no longer dependent on CPAP?
Let me say something...
I know how you feel, but what about this: I had my diagnosis of severe sleep apnea, with AHI of 60 when I was 20 years old. Yeah, crap. Guess what, my IMC is normal, for me the problem neither is age or weight, unfortunately for me is kind of constituition of my face and airway shape. If you can loose weight and get rid of CPAP, great, luck you are. I don't have this option...

But, before think your life is a hell and whatever, just think that are many other people with much worse medical conditions and life is too short to lost on complainings. We have to cope and move on.

I respect that for some people there is no other option. And I respect that might be the case for me one day. It's just too early to resign myself to that fate right now, despite the overwhelming sentiment from some people that I should.

You're right if you can take other measures that allow you to not use the CPAP, go on. But try to have a more positive way of facing this kind of stuff. Some things that occured to me recently just showed me that in the many problems we face on life we have the option of dealing with courage or letting the problem dominate us.

Wish you the best!

FYI: early on, some of the first cpaps was used on NEWBORNS.
Those wee tykes were given the one chance they needed to grow up and live.
Only when we are old enough to master language can we become ungrateful.
