Time Zone Issues

Post by bhuang » Tue Jun 16, 2020 3:37 pm

Yesterday when I travel from Eastern time zone to pacific time zone, two problems occur
1. Last night data was recorded starting at Eastern Time Zone but ended Western time zone but not exactly. There are almost 3 hours short in recorded data.
2. Then when I change my PC time zone from Eastern to Pacific, it gets a little weird. Last night data is definitely wrong. In addition, all 6-month data that was imported to Oscar changed the time zone in the display. All the old data should stay at the Eastern Time Zone. Otherwise, it is too hard to read the chart.

#1 issue is a bug.
#2 issue is not a desirable user design.

When we travel or when the time changes because of daylight saving time, I don't bother changing the time on our machines. The time I go to sleep or wake up is not important. What is important is how long we slept and how the AHI looks.

Well, I just told friends how great Oscar is. Then in one day, I found that when the time zone changed in the PC, the old data time mark changed. That's not good. I need to know what time Apnea occurs. I am doing a lot of testing. I not only wear BiPAP mask to sleep. I wear O2Ring to sleep. I match the Oximetry drops with the Apnea events. I try to find a correlation between the food that I eat and exercise that I do that day with the apnea events. If I just want to know AHI, myAir has a summary. So, I am getting to much more precise.

You don't change the time on the machine when you travel or daylight saving. The machine is like a cell phone that communicates with the cell tower. It automatically adjusts to local time much like your cell phone. When I said change time zone, it is a change on the PC that Oscar is installed. Without cell communication, PC cannot automatically change the time zone. It is good for events in the calendar to use local time.

Well you can use ResScan. See if it does what you want it to do.
Windows only software though.
You can go here to find out how to get it.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
You would have been better off to change the clock on your machine though.

That link has nothing about getting ResScan. ResMed insists that ResScan is only for clinicians/doctors.

It most certainly does contain information on how to get ResScan.
Look more closely.
It's where I got ResScan. Click on the link and follow the directions for getting ResScan.

Although ResMeds uses cellular for data upload, they absolutely do not sync their clocks to cellular time servers.

Or you could write a program to do what you want, give it out for free, and others could rag on it, for not doing stuff that doesn't matter! Jim

Ok, finally find the link and create an account on Apneaboard. Will play with it in the next couple of days. Thanks.

Found from ResMed help of how to change the time zone. It needs to be done from myair.remed.com, in the My Account Page. I have changed the time zone and will test again tonight here in Seattle.

I am not complaining about Oscar. The whole purpose of feedback is to improve the program. For something that good, it should be flawless. Thanks to those who spent their time on Sleepyhead and Oscar.

Why do you think changing the time zone on MyAir is going to influence how OSCAR presents the data?
