Philips = obstructives Resmed = centrals

Hi,

I was used to sleeping with dreamstation for about a year.
Average AHI = 3 most of them obstructive, few hypos and maybe 2 or 3 centrals in total per night.

Since a few months I use the resmed airsense elite 10.
Now my chart looks totally different.
AHI is the same, around 3, but now the apneas are mostly centrals. And a few obstructives.

Settings on both machines are 9cm2 straight.

My doc says she doesn't know what causes it and she says I shouldn't worry about it..

Any of you maybe know what causes this?

You've been around long enough and posted enough times to know people don't like to make random guesses.

Their algorithms are slightly different, so you'll want to do set-up with that in mind. If you want real details, hopefully Pugsy will be around soon.

The *auto* algorithms are vastly different.

But if they're set on fixed pressure, that's irrelevant.

Without seeing real examples (detailed reports) the only thing I can offer is that the 2 brands simple don't do anything exactly the same and to expect the exact same results when the 2 brands have different algorithms as well as different definitions for anything is nothing more than a WAG and we all known I don't do wags.

Not to mention the added complication that we have night to night variations in everything even if nothing changed.

I have personally used both brands and the differences in the reports were obvious. Quite honestly I always just chalked it up to just a difference in event definition criteria and how they go about doing their respective job and I shrugged my shoulders and moved on because there's not a damn thing I could do about it one way or the other.

Heck...even the way the 2 brands go about differentiating between centrals and obstructives is different. To me we just can't really compare the results. Which brand's way is "more correct"????? Beats the hell out of me.
Which way is "more accurate"....I dunno....FOT vs pressure pulses?????
To know for sure we would have to have a Respironics machine and a ResMed machine be used during an in lab study where we could also have a human (who we assume would know what the hell they are doing and we all know that there is no guarantee there either)...all working on the same patient the same night at the same time...to compare all the data and that's pretty much a physical impossibility to have happen.
