Recommendations for White Noise Machine Model?
Our electronic machine has developed a short. We would like to get a really good new one. I'm not looking for something with all kinds of bells and whistles. Can you make a recommendation?
(We are using a small fan in the interim.)

I have a white noise generator on my Alexa Echo.
An Alexa device will cost about $50, often on sale for a lot less. You then have access to dozens of White, Ambient, Background, Nature,... noise skills.

Re: Recommendations for White Noise Machine Model?
i'll be following this thread with interest. my own "travel sound conditioner" is acting a bit flaky as in cutting out for no reason.
it's a Marsona TSC-330 and i'm bummed to see that this model is no longer being made. this is my second one as i've been using white noise for years before i became aware of my apnea.
Marsona still exists and i may try one of the new models when this one gives up. like chicago granny, i like it because it's pretty simple with a minimum of adjustments.
dog slobber has a good idea. i've used noise generators found online the times when i've forgotten my marsona when traveling. they work fairly well. i just used a cheap tablet, but i would suppose that would be used with a smartphone these days.

This was one of the original machines, and is still one of the best (from reviews) my brother has one, and loves it. You can adjust the speed (high and low) as well as the tone and volume by twisting the top, which opens more of the vents (the diagonal slits on the side).ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 10:34 amOur electronic machine has developed a short. I thought it was expensive, till I saw the other one suggested.

Any old radio, tuned between channels, might produce the sound you need--cost: FREE.
If you have a retired smartphone that still works, but is not active,
you can use wifi to download a white noise app and play it--cost: little or nothing.
Some clock radios have a soothing sound feature.

Re: Recommendations for White Noise Machine Model?
I've thought about buying one of that brand for years. The single-speed model, which is a lot cheaper, might be good enough for us because we live in a quiet neighborhood. We sleep with the bedroom door open, and it is primarily creaks in the house that tend to bother us. The creaks sound like wood expanding and contracting with changes in weather.palerider wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 11:43 amThis was one of the original machines, and is still one of the best (from reviews) my brother has one, and loves it. Re: Recommendations for White Noise Machine Model?
To close this out, I took an old smartphone and downloaded the free app White Noise Lite. Last night, I used the Pink Noise sound and slept well. I just wanted it to block out sounds, but there was a feeling that it also helped with relaxation.
Thanks to everyone who made a recommendation

just my preference, but i'd rather have a dedicated white noise generator.

makes sense.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 2:02 pmYeah, I wouldn't want to use my daily phone for overnight white noise. Since I have three smartphones, two of which are used daily, I dedicated the third one to white noise only.

Never pictured you as one who keeps burner phones. What's next a throw-down pistol?ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 2:02 pmYeah, I wouldn't want to use my daily phone for overnight white noise. Re: Recommendations for White Noise Machine Model?
The marpac is good and used in professional settings. I've had at least 5 of them; they don't last more than 2 years or so when used 24/7 so set your expectations accordingly. I took one apart but still couldn't fix it.palerider wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 11:43 amThis was one of the original machines, and is still one of the best (from reviews) my brother has one, and loves it.
