A night from Hell!

Post by Sleepy-eyes » Fri Dec 22, 2006 8:20 am

You know the drill. It was 9:30......bedtime, albeit a little early. Gathered all my straps filled with elastic materials and covered in Velcro. Made certain the humidifier reservoir was filled with distilled water to the proper level. (don't know why it's supposed to be filled to the line, 7 hours of use never uses more than half the volume) Put on my chin lift and mouth strap and pulled on my mask. (you know the picture) Crawled into bed and covered myself with a soft blanket and comforter for a nice winter nights sleep. Oh, I should backtrack a little here. At about 3:30 that afternoon I felt as if I was going to collapse I was so tired. Decided to put on the mask and take a nap. Only slept an hour, but it seemed to help. Have never done that before. Any way, little did I know that I should have slept more. When I laid down last night, I didn't realize what I was in for. Because of my nap, I think, I couldn't get to sleep. I lay there an hour, then it was an hour and a half................and another hour went by. I kept thinking "I don't want to get up and mess up the data on my card, I want to stay compliant...............how will I know how I'm doing if I don't stay here and sleep?" I lay there another half hour. It was now 12:30. I kept forcing myself to stay still and try to sleep. I'm pretty certain I was awake for at least another hour before finally falling asleep. I got up at 7am this morning. Took off all my "battle armor" and rolled out of bed. I reached down to pull the card out of my machine to go download the data to see just what in the world had happened..........(ARG!)...............but I never put the card back in after downloading yesterday. %$#&^@#$$

Ever have a night like that?

Chris

Not quite that bad, but I used to lay there and not want to get up and go to the bathroom since I was unsure what that would do to my compliance data and insurance willingness to purchase.

Tonight is another night!!

For the first few weeks I found myself obsessing with the data, and I finally realized the machine was controlling me! I have now taken over. By the way, the humidifier reservour says "do not fill above line". You can fill it with whatever amount is right for you.

What a night!

Not being able to go to sleep has got to be the worst. Can't say I ever had exactly that problem. Before my Periodic Limb Movement Disorder was treated, I used to get stuck in that place somewhere betwixt and between and it was torture. I lived for those few seconds I seemed to truly doze intermittently throughout the nite. Sorry to hear you had such a bad nite -you are quite descriptive! If it weren't for the related misery, the smart card part is almost comedic.

Wishing you a better night's sleep tonight.

Kathy

I had one last night, but for a different reason. I had forgotten to wash my mask the night before. When I went to bed, my mask smelled so bad. I got up and washed it with Dawn dishsoap. I went back to bed, now my mask smelled bad along with the yucky smell of the dishsoap.

I set my machine on top of my trashcan at the side of my bed. I checked to see if someone had put something in it. Yuck, a dirty diaper was there. My machine was picking up the odor from the trashcan.

I moved my machine and the trashcan out of my room. Got the best night's sleep yet.

My understanding is that most places consider anything over four hours per night to be in compliance. Since my machine (and I think most others) is set to measure the 24 hour period from noon to noon, I don't worry about taking an afternoon nap or getting up during the night because I usually manage to cobble together enough time between naps and outside of the occasional bathroom break to stay compliant.

I know that doesn't help the crappy feeling the next morning, but at least you don't have to sweat the compliance stuff as much.

Thanks, OCO. I'm so new to this I was under the impression it was "4 hour straight" which met compliance. Nice to know.

What about just leaving the machine on while you go to the bathroom? Would that mess with the numbers?

I suppose it would mess with the leak numbers, if you track those, but there shouldn't be any break from a compliance standpoint.

Of course it might aggravate your bunk mate to listen to the 747 resting on your pillow while you're gone!

I just disconnect the hose and stick it under my pillow...........she does the same with hers. Neither of us have ever been bothered by it. Works for us.
